If doc offered to strip your membranes, would you let her?

My doc offered today, but I declined. I think she wants to see me go into labor before my scheduled c section on Tuesday so I can attempt a vbac. Is it safe and what would you have done in my shoes?

As with any intervention, there are risks. Infection is one risk, and accidental rupture of membranes is another. It doesn't induce labor unless your body is ready. If you're planning a natural labor, your doc could easily try to use a lack of response to membrane stripping as justification for more aggressive techniques.

That's tough. Can you try any other natural methods? How far along are you? I would just ask to have your csection date moved back to allow yourself more time. Your baby should not really be rushed out either via c-section or stripping membranes. That's just my opinion though and I don't know your whole situation.

Why do you have a scheduled c if the goal is VBAC?

My hospital won't allow vbacs even though my doc was pushing for it. I will be 39 weeks on Tuesday, and doc was hoping I'd go into labor before then so I could show up and refuse to be cut. (I went early with my first 2 kids.)

I wouldn't until after 40 weeks.

What it is, is that they use their fingers to separate the bag of water, gently, from your cervix. Hormones are released, but there is no guarantee that it'll start labor.

I'd move the c section date to your due date since they're against vbacs. Membrane stripping might not actually work so I'd save that for 39 weeks as sort of a last resort if labor doesn't happen on its own.

I've had it done twice.  Once it worked..once it didn't.  I wouldn't have it done unless I was 40 weeks.  Good luck!
