Hi guys.
I found this group today and so glad to be able to ask you for some advice.
I took a few pregnancy tests this past Saturday and they call came back positve. My first though should've been "OMG, how exciting". Instead, I felt myself thinking "OMG, what now?".
This is my first experience and it was an unplanned pregnancy. I would like to schedule an appointment to get my blood drawn to verify the home tests were in fact accurate. However, I don't currently have a GP in this area, and not sure who I should be scheduling my appoinment with. Would I seek out an OBGYN? Based on everything I've been tracking all along, I'm thinking I'm about 3 weeks along. Seems like it might be a bit too early for an appointment with a specialist at this point. Can I just have a GP or a nurse do that for me?
My other concern is I always thought that if and when I get pregnant, I would want to stay as close to natural birthing experience as possible/safe. I'm worried that if I do make an appointment with an OBGYN, it would be difficult to switch to a midwife down the road.
Anyways, I'm sure I will have a ton more questions for you guys, but first things first, what's the first step?:)
If all you want right now is a blood test you can go to planned parenthood.
When I was looking for my Dr. I was looking for someone I wanted to be with through the whole pregnancy and birth. Some GP's don't deliver. So I went online and looked at different Dr's and reviews. Also If you have insurance you can call your provider to get a list of OB's that they cover. I actually didn't get my first appointment till I was 8weeks. I wanted to be seen earlier but Dr. didn't want to see me till then.
Thanks so much for the tip about Planned Parenthood. I didn't even think of it right away.
I agree about choosing a doctor wisely and making sure he or she is the one you're comfortable to have with you throughout the entire pregnancy, so I'm glad to get some re-assurance that I still have time to do my research.
Why don't you look for local midwives then? They will order tests you need as well as any old OB. Congratulations and good luck! You may also want to join the November 2013 Babies group here on cafemom. I'm in there too. :)
I have seen an ob & midwife. My midwife was much more natural minded than my ob.

Feel free to jump in with any questions/concerns :)
If you have a regular doctor they'll perform a blood test for you as well. :-) That's how I found out with both of my first two. It wasn't until after I found out I was pregnant fhe doctor with my first that I started looking into obs and midwives. I researched around for probably a couple weeks before finding one I wanted to go to. A lot of people even go in and interview them first. :-)
Welcome! I didnt confirm my pregnancy beside the urine tests. I made appintment at 10 weeks this time but with other two pregnancies I went about 4-5 weeks. as for your other question... i have c-sections so the other moms will be more help.
