You should stay away from fish high in mercury. Otherwise, it's a good form of protein. My doctor did say canned meats were off limit, not sure if that includes tuna.

Stick to small fish. You can have big fish (that eat other fish, like tuna and swordfish) in small quantities because they tend to be higher in mercury.

It is a mercury thing, mainly with tuna and other large fish (especially predatory fish). FDA says pregnant women can eat up to 12 oz a week. (If I had a hankering for tuna, I tried to limit it to 6oz personally.)
Shrimp, crab, pollock, cod, tilapia, catfish and salmon are all considered safe.
Canned light tuna is your best bet for tuna. Albacore and chunk white should be more closely limited or not eaten at all.
I'm a fish person. I live in FL and my husband is from the Caribbean. I sometimes eat more fish than I should but I rarely eat tuna and just about all I eat is considered safe. Fish is such a great source of protein and omega-3s which help in baby's brain development.
