My best friend did that. She opted to not have any ultrasounds so they didn't know the gender. Her family had a baby shower for her when her son was a couple weeks old. I thought it was really nice. Everyone got to meet the new baby. :)

I've heard of it as a Welcome Baby Party.

We are having a Welcome Baby party on the 20th. Baby was a week old yesterday.

You mean a Meet the Baby party? Nope, nothing stupid about that. Sometimes it's the most practical thing, or a good option if a regular shower might seem tacky. I don't like them for my babies, personally, because people will want to hold the baby and I'd be paranoid about everyone washing their hands the whole time.

We are doing this for baby #2 only because of what happened to my daughter when she was born. She was born unresponsive but luckily the drs were able to get her breathing. So as a precaution, we are doing the baby shower after he/she is born.

Yes because it was a shower, not a meet the baby party. We had a meet the baby party with my second child. It was just a get together with the new baby. It was her only shower. Initially it was planned to be right before her due date, but he decided to come a couple weeks early. It worked out well since they didn't know the gender before he was born.
