I watched A Baby Story today (Not normal for me but it was a natural birth at a birthing center) but the birthing mother pushed for 2 1/2 hrs. And my Hubby who walked in just in time to hear that said "OMG 2 1/2 hrs" So I am curious, what where your pushing experiences? How long did it take you?? Do you believe their was a reason it took you less or more time to push baby out?

I stepped in as a Doula for a lady from church and she pushed for a good 45 min. In her case she just wasn't pushing right. She was pushing everywhere but in her bottom. Once she began pushing correctly she had her son out in about 10 min.

I pushed about 8 times with all 5 of my kids. My longest labor was 5 hours 12 minutes from start to finish and that was my 1st. I never had a problem with labor. :)

With my first...I pushed somewhere between 20-40 minutes. with my second I pushed for maybe 10 minutes. My son (my first) was real big for the space so that one ended up being vacuum assisted. With the second it was more or less about like 4 pushes and she was out. Many Mothers are literally afraid to "poop" while doing it and might actually push wrong because of that fear. For me..I didn't care..yes I pooped but it is only natural..the biggest recommendation is remember that these professionals are meant to do this and deal with whatever happens. So I just let it all go and push lol.

My DD was 45 minutes. I was pushing the right way. She was 9 lbs 6 oz and 22 inches long. They gave me a episiotomy and I didn't have a epidural. Her shoulders were really wide!

It can take a while. It depends on the mom's position, how far baby is down in the pelvis when she starts pushing, baby's position, size of baby, how many babies mom has had, if she has had drugs, size of mom, etc.

I am an apprentice midwife and the longest I've seen a mom push for was 4 hours. She just needed time. The shortest was 3 minutes.  You never know and you should not concern yourself with time.

2 hours with my son... His head was pushing down toward my butt the whole time and the Dr had to use a vacuum to lift it up and the he came right out. I had a severely bruised tailbone from two hours of him pushing down on me for about 2-3 months. It hurt so bad to sit.

My daughter like 10-15 min or so.

And honestly it didn't feel like 2 hours. It flew by!

1- five minutes

2- 20 minutes, I was forced on my back by having the random OB pull me by my ankles

3- not even 5 minutes

No one told ME when to push, I told them when I was pushing!

Well, its something you start learning and practicing for weeks or more before you're due, so it's a little late for that, but go to YouTube and maybe iTunes and see if you can buy a few tracks. The affirmations alone are fantastic.

Quoting KatieFlower:

Id love some info on hypnobirthing! i am due with my third in 6 days.  had epis with my two. second epi went in wrong. i would prefer to try without. if you have any links or info please send! thank you :)

Quoting TTC2Long:

4 mins the first time, 2 the second. I hypnobirth, so I didn't push myself - I relaxed and let my body do the pushing. It was an amazing feeling!
