I had my 37 week appointment today, and on my when my dr checked to see if I was dilated I could have just cried! If I can't handle that then how in the hell am I going to be able to handle birth?!

Did/does this hurt for you ladies too?

and I'm 1 cm and have not thinned at all : (

It's never a fun experience for me either....but at least it's over quickly!

If you think that's painful stripping your membranes is no walk in the park. Yes, it does hurt but at least it's quick. I hope all goes well for you.

Tell him/her to be gentle! I have a male dr (ie bigger hands than a female) and it feels like he's trying to find my tonsils... and there's a lot of pressure... but it doesnt really hurt. also, just breathe and relax. tensing up makes the pain worse.

It gets easier as you get further along in labor. Your cervix moves as baby's head comes down.

It will be okay.

I'm curious to know, how doctors check the cervix?

1 mom liked this

I was never checked for dilation outside of active labor.  It's unnecessary - just refuse it because it tells you nothing anyway.
