Hi everyone, I've noticed a lot of posts about your baby's genders. I think its great that you all get so excited and I am happy for you too. However, "Gender is a range of physical, mental, and behavioral characteristics distinguishing between masculinity and femininity" according to Wikipedia (I know, citing Wikipedia isn't super scholarly but we aren't posting on a university list-serv here). This is just a gentle reminder that while your baby may be born with a certain set of genitals it does not automatically mean that the child's gender will match. It's the sex of the baby, not the gender. A gender is grown into, developed, and cannot be labeled based on physical characteristics alone. Congratulations to all the new Mommas regardless of the gender of their new babies!

ummm that's nice.

I think I prefer the "Am I pregnant" questions rather than this useless info

If my child is born with a penis, his gender is male. This may not be true for you or other people, but it is for me.

I prefer to go on the assumption that my children will not be part of the tiny group of people who undergo all the psychological testing and medical procedures of gender reassignment. There is an almost 100% chance that a penis means male and a vulva means female.

Let me guess you would let your son wear a dress and encourage your daughter to play with army men instead of dolls......

It's more of the fun of knowing if I'm buying pink or blue. It really doesn't go this deep as newborns.
