X and Y Chromosone tests

Hey ladies! On April 1st I found out I am having my second little boy. Well I missed the blood screening done by my obgyn that tests for downsyndrome so they set me up an appointment with a specialist where I was supposed to have a more detailed ultrasound, instead they just took a pic of my baby's face and told me they were going to do the test through my blood. They took my blood and explained how they would test it, then told me they could do test on my baby's X and Y chromosones to find more out about those chromosones in his gender or something. I'm wondering, what are they testing those for? Idk why I didn't ask for them to explain more, but I just said they could do them.

Downs is a tri chromosomal disorder. Instead of having a pair, one of them is a trio.

A lot of disorders are passed on genetically so I guess they are looking at those.

I know about that, the something, the 7th, and the 21st, the 21st being the ds one. But it was a totally different test that they can do that some people don't want them to

I don't think they were looking for disorders. They said they could find out more about the baby. I kinda figure it's something like how they can find out about ur baby's eye color and if the baby is gay and whatnot. I figure it might be about "the gay gene" idk tho what they're looking for. Guess I'll find out the 11th when I go to my regular ob appointment

Weird. i have no idea why they would do that. I don't think there is a "gay gene'.

Nope. There is no "gay gene test". There just isn't.

Your doctor doesn't care about what sexual orientation your baby may be, or the eye color, or any frills. They are looking for genetic disorders, something wrong with baby, and chromosonal problems. They can test the gender of the baby too, but that's not what they're looking for either. They're just trying to figure out any future problems baby might have. That is what they care about when they "want to learn more about baby". Next time though, I'd ask for the information from the doctor. Before I consent to anything, I ask my doctor for details so I know exactly what is going on with my body and what they're doing.

Lol, well idk I heard, not in school or anything but from somewhere, that there is a gene that says if ur straight or gay. I really don't know anything about it, I was just guessing, and that was one of my guesses because they said not everyone wants them to test it.

Well I didn't know if there was or not. I've heard there is and of people looking at it and all of the other things.
I know I should've asked more about it, but I was having a bit of an off day I guess. They are just testing his dna they find in my blood that they'd already taken from me. I can't see why anyone would not want it tested if they're just looking to make sure there aren't more problems. I wish they had done it with my first because he had problems that he had to have surgery for at 1 1/2 months that they could have caught before it got so bad.
