Tuna Fish....I'll kill for some.

So, the perpetual runs to Subway for their 5 dollar footlong tuna sandwich wasn't a clue to me that I was pregnant even though I loathed tuna fish before. Anyway, this is my second pregnancy and I am JUST AS SCARED as I was the first time. (Not about the labor since that was the least of the worries I needed to have) I worry about how to best eat since I am overweight and want the best for this baby! I have had SERIOUS willing to kill people cravings for tuna fish. I know I can't eat it because I am pregnant. Does anyone have any insight to WHY I am craving this, am I missing something in my diet? And what a great replacement would be?

THANKS SO MUCH!!!!!!!!

With love-

Dani

You CAN eat tuna, just not excessively.

My midwife recommends no more than 2 servings a week.

Pregnant women CAN have tuna. In moderation its okay. Call up your dr. and ask.

I would say you may be lacking protein or iron..Fish is high in both of those..here is a good clip on how much or how little fish you can have during pregnancy. It's from the MAYO clinic so it should be pretty reliable. You can always go to the FDA website and search it as well! Good luck.

you can have atleast 1 can of tuna per week just avoid albacore....usually anything in moderation is fine, the type of fish you want to avoid is anything with high mercury volumes...but one can of tuna per week thats not albacore is what my dct said..as to why you are craving it who knows! Ive been craving coke and dr. pepper and i didnt like it b4 i got preggo, but go ahead and have some....just in moderation! Happy pregnancy!

I think its no more than 4 cans a week or something like that...just ask the doctor.  As far as being concerend about weight, dont go to subway then, their tuna fish is loaded with mayo...but you could make your own!

You can have tuna!

Its not a good idea to eat it everyday but you can have it in moderation.

Hi! Actually most dr's (and my doc when I was pregnant with my twins and son, still gotta see a doc for this pregnancy) say that you can eat tuna once a week and it will be okay for the baby. As long as it's eaten in moderation as well it should be okay. I would say you could be missing some sort of nutrien that the tuna has that your body needs or you could just be craving it! I know with my 5 year old I HAD to have wendy's coke for some odd reason....lol I dunno why but if it was any other coke i wouldn't drink it...lol I would say if you're concerned call your doc and see what they have to say. If they give the okay I say grab a foot long and enjoy momma!!!

You CAN eat tuna.
Just not raw or white(albacore) tuna.

I just want to add also that if you eat albacore tuna that you should eat no more than 6oz a week as it is high in mercury. If you want tuna go for light chunky tuna.

You can try iron and Omega-3 supplements to see if that will counteract the cravings.  But I would just eat the tuna once in awhile.  It is perfectly safe in moderation.
