Serious question about at-home Pregnancy Tests!

Question:

Do the $1 (dollar store) pregnancy tests REALLLY work??  If so, then WHY ON EARTH would anyone ever pay $14.99 for a Clear Blue Easy test??  What is the difference, and why would you waste so much money on expensive at-home tests  (if the cheap ones work just as well)??

Conversely, IF the dollar store tests do NOT work, then how are they legally able to sell them??

  • Some tests are more sensitive than others. I found that I got a lot of evaps with the $1 test but never a first response.

  • I took 4 $1 store tests... They were all negative... I took a First Response test from Walmart, and got a positive... Later I took another First Response, 2 Answer and a Clearblue Digital... All said Pregnant... I'm now 14 weeks 4 days pregnant.
    They didn't work for me

    Quoting kdrdibft:

    No they don't

If they DON'T work, as you say, then it is blatant false advertising, and illegal to sell them in the United States.    WTF??????

  • absolutely from my experience. back in the day (before i knew about the dollar store tests) i would spend $15-$20 for one test thinking that since it costs the most, it would be the most accurate. boy was i wrong! i had 2 of those tests come up inconclusive, which basically means they didnt tell me either or (if i was pregnant or not). so after spending hundreds of dollars on these expensive tests (ive been pregant 7 times) i eventually started using the  dollar tree tests (only $1!!!) and i never ever got an inconclusive, and on top of that, i would test up to a week BEFORE my period was due and i would get positives! and i never once got an inaccurate result (a false positive or negative). come to find out later on, the doctors offices, clinics, health departments, all use the same exact dollar store tests! lol.
