What NOT to do while breastfeeding..

Hey ladies! I am getting close to the big day and I was wondering what kinds of limitations I will have while breast feeding. Obviously I know the effects of drinking and I dont plan on doing that just  so I dont have to deal with the whole pump and dump thing... but aside from that.. are there things i cant do or foods i should avoid?

Thanks a bunch in advance!

There's not a whole lot.  You can drink lightly/moderately (1-2 glasses dep on long your babe goes between feeding).  No need to pump and dump, just wait 2 hours per drink before nursing again.

No foods to avoid, unless baby shows a reaction to something... colic, reflux, congestion, etc...

Even moderate smoking isn't really prohibited.  The baby will be worse off getting the smoke from your clouthes than anything coming through your milk.

Decongestants are bad because they can dry you up and you can only use certain BC methods.

Other than that... it's important NOT to give bottles in the beginning.  It's also important to NOT schedule your babes feedings.   Just forget the clock altogether and watch the baby.

Honey is not an issue, niether is coffee unless baby reacts to it.

Not unless your baby has an allergy to something, which would be pretty apparant (throwing up a lot). Aside from that no food limitations. There are foods that will make your baby stinkier though. Like anytime I eat broccoli, my baby's diapers smell like a toxic dump! I hear asparagus has the same effect.

The best advice I got was not to stress! Be patient and utilize the lactation consultant! When I BF DD she didn't have issues with anything I ate, but I kept my diet very similar to when I was pregnant.

are you serious? thats a load of crap... thats why theres so many obese kids! babies need structure and schedule... routine! wat if your babys hungry ever 2 hours... geting up to feed every 2 hours till god knows how old the baby is, that is RIDICULOUS!   when there newborns... 2-3 hours is norm, then eventually 4 hour schedules... works wonders... my aunt did the whole "non scheduled" thing with her second baby she she regrets it sooo bad... hes overweight, and just a handful, can not get him on a schedule for anything!
