Is this safe??

I am 13 weeks pregnant and my hair looks AWFUL!! I haven't had a cut and color since June so I am way overdue. I'm just wondering when it is safe for me to color my hair? I think that in my first pregnancy I got my hair highlighted as soon as I hit my second trimester. I just want it highlighted and cut and I'm desperate to get it done but I want to make sure that it won't hurt my baby. Also, is it safe to get the color stripped out while pregnant? My *natural* hair color is a dark brown but I usually put honey and caramel highlights in it. But since my hair grows so fast I'm thinking about going closer to my natural haircolor with auburn. Just hoping that I can do this very soon!!

Get it done by a pro and you should be fine. My sister did when she was pregnant. Much safer than doing it yourself.

Yes its fine. My mom owns a salon and I used to manage one. I have gotten my hair bleached and dyed since being pregnant.

As long as they arent going right to the scalp giving your skin a chance to absorb it. Also, be careful of the fumes. Go with something that is low ammonia or not so strong smelling. Talk to your stylist, she probably gets asked that kind of stuff all the time.

The only "unsafe" part of coloring your hair while your pregnant is because of the hormones the color could varry. Going to a pro is your best bet. But I and 14 weeks and I bleached my own hair the other day it turned out fine though.

Yeah, any hair color is safe, just try to make sure that whoever is doing it, that it doesn't touch your scalp directly, because it can get into your blood stream through your skin and go to your placenta...that's it.

Good luck!

I most definitely am NOT doing it myself! Last time I highlighted my hair myself was 5 years ago and my hair ended up looking like candy corn. And I'm not even joking! LOL I go to a rather expensive salon and my hairdresser is amazing. I know that my hairdresser doesn't go all the way to the scalp so I do feel safe about that. But, if I do get it "stripped" that is a big process so I just want to make sure that it is safe for my little bean.

I just read about this today.  My book says not to if you can stand it.  I guess somehow chemicals can get into your bloodstream through your scalp.  But if you ask me its BS!  Im getting ready to color mine, Im not going to be grey for 9 months!  I'd go for it, I've never heard of anything bad happening to a fetus because of hair coloring.

My DR said it was OK for me as long as I tried to use dye that had some sort of botanical in it. And no bleach.
