How long before your due date did you start maternity leave? I'm so freaked out about it. I'm due on Monday the 3rd and plan on Friday being my last day, but I won't get much time off (only 3 weeks) and want to spend as much of that time off with my baby as possible. My days are pretty flexible at work, but I don't want to actually go into labor at work....I just wanted to know your thoughts.
My plan was to work until I went to the hospital to deliver, but it didn't quite work out that way. My doctor put me out of work the week before my due date because of high blood pressure. I'm in my last week of maternity leave and believe me, it goes by way too fast. Good luck!
Quoting nicdew:
Our baby is due December 14 and my last day of work is the 21 of Nov. I live in Canada so i receive a year off with my little one. I can't imagine only having 6 weeks. That just Suxs
Not fair!! lol. You get a year off & still have your current job when you go back?!?!
I was due on Tuesday the 18th but went overdue, I worked until Friday the 21st (we're not open on weekends), and was induced on Monday the 24th. This time, I'm going to do the same thing - work as long as possible. My coworkers all knew that if I wasn't feeling up to working, I would stay home or leave mid-day, and they were prepared for that. Sitting at home waiting to have a baby would make me crazy, and I wanted as much time with the new baby as possible, especially since I was nursing her. The weekend before I was induced, I went out to eat (hey, last time I'll get to do that without arranging for a babysitter!), and we did a lot of shopping, walking, and driving around. I wasn't worried about going into labor in a public place. It's a very small percentage of women whose water breaks spontaneously, so I took my chances. It did happen to my friend though - at a bar!
Natural birth is love, but so is birthing with an epidural! I know that birthing is not an emergency, I'm not afraid of it, but I'll take that epidural anyway!
With my pregnancy last year, my water broke at work. With this baby, I'll work again until my water breaks, health permitting of course. I'm not getting paid for my maternity leave, so not only do we need the money, but i want to use whatever we have saved, which isn't a lot(!), and spend the time off with my baby.
I do daycare at home so I'm trying to get a scheduled induction so my parents can have a plan. But because I'm self employed I don't get paid maternity leave and I don't want to lose the kids I have now and start all over. So my husband will be taking a paid voluntary lay off from work to stay home and take care of the daycare kids for a month while I re coop and take care of baby. We will only be shutting down daycare for 3 days.
