I have a 5 week old and he is just not a happy baby.. He has reflux and we have changed his formula 3 times already. Anyway, today the doctor put him on Prevacid. I am just wondering how many of you have babies who have used Prevacid and if you saw an improvement?
My youngest two both had horrible, horrible reflux/GERD, starting pretty much from day one. My youngest, who is now two, suffered Failure to Thrive due to the severity of his GERD. Both of them were on Prevacid, starting at about two weeks of age.... And both of them were OFF of it by three months. My honest personal opinion? It didn't work. Nothing did. They spewed no matter WHAT they were on (Reglan, Axid, Prevacid, and I can't remember what else). My youngest still spontaneously vomits if he drinks or eats too much, too fast. They just need to outgrow it. Oh, and changing formulas? That didn't work, either. It's not an allergy or a sensitivity, it's an immaturity in the diaphragmatic sphincter. (I have another rant on here somewhere about doctors claiming babies have milk allergies... let me know if you're interested, I will track it down and repost it for you.)
Having said all that, I never noticed that giving them the meds caused any harm, either; it may not have worked for my kids, but it may help with yours. Give it three or four weeks, see if it makes a difference. Less laundry would be nice, anyway, right??
