Apparently ever dr is different. It makes sense to me, that you should fast because there would be nothing in your system to mess with the results and from what ive seen most women fail their tests when they dont fast because there is sugar in alot of foods that we eat. I would def. follow your doctors instructions though.

Here's what my doctor tells us:

1-hour GTT - do NOT fast.  Eat as usual; just don't eat anything too sugary.  If you fast, your results may not be accurate.  You could pass when you really have G.D.  Likewise, if you eat something too sugary, you may fail when you're really fine.  Use good judgement when choosing what to eat the day of your testing.  Don't carb load!

3-hour GTT (the test you have to take when you fail the 1-hour) - DO fast.  It's just the rules; plain and simple.

I have no idea why different women are told to fast for the 1-hour.  I've been pregnant three times and every time I was told not to fast before the 1-hour.  When I failed the 1-hour in my second pregnancy, I had to take the 3-hour and I was told I had to fast for that one.

I was told I could eat breakfast, I had eggs because it can't be anything sugary.  They told me not to eat anything 2 hours prior to the appointment, though.  I couldn't eat anything or drink anything 2 hours before my appointment.  When you go I would bring some crackers or something so that you can eat something after the test.  I brought peanut butter crackers and then ate lunch when I got home.

thank you, i didn't fast with the last one but i had never heard anything different back then, i had toast with butter and milk to drink (yuk!!!) and passed with low blood sugar... my mom has low blood sugar to the point of hyperglycemia... (like the opposite of diabetes) so i really think it is a waste of my time but i dont wanna make myself sick from something avoidable so i will do it but dont want to!!!

I was told to eat a normal breakfast with the 1-hr.  Failed that one so I was told to take the 3-hr, and that one you have to fast for.  I was borderline with that one so my doc ordered the 2-hr fasting glucose.  That one came back okay.  Weird.

I didn't have to fast at all the doc just suggested I not eat things that were high in sugar before I took it.
