Ultrasounds are notoriously "off" the later in the pregnancy they are given. First of all, the measurements depend on a human making them and humans can make mistakes. Second of all, there is no way to accurately know how much a baby weighs inside the womb... in most cases, the estimates are 1 pound and at the very end can go 2 pounds either way.

However, 5 weeks IS a big variation and could mean a big baby... there is just no way to know for sure until he/she gets here!

I thought the weeks were usually only off about 1 week. But the weight they really can not tell until the baby is here they told me my son would be 6-7 pounds and he was 9pounds 3 once and my friend they said 7-8 pounds and hers was 11 pounds 5 once yeah way way off.

Why is he making such a big deal over it?

I mean, with Liam... at the end they said he was due 8/13 according to the U/S because he was so small.... but I had an early ultrasound on Oct 27 so I knew he was due July 8... he was just a very small baby!

I read 2 pounds on either side, but have seen other moms claim more.

All of mine have always given me the same due date. I've had some at the OB's office, some w/ a specialist, and a few unofficial at the hospital I used to work at.

That is not really a reason for him to get mad. These things happen you can never be totally 100% accurate. What does he think you can see in there and ask the baby when he/she is coming out. Maybe see if your doctor can use a different machine or go to the hospital they will check on their machine. I hope everything calms down for you that is the last thing you need right now is stress.

My doctor told me they could be off 1 pound.  I'm sure it could be greater but they guessed she would be 8lbs 2oz and she was 9lbs 2oz.
