I work part-time for an insurance company, and have for the past 4 years. I love my job, I make great money, and have no intentions of leaving it anytime soon. Part-time is the best!
However, the program for Maternity leave SUCKS! According to our handbook, since my particular office has less than 50 employees in it, we are ineligible for paid maternity leave. WTH does the # of employees have anything to do with the fact that I'm having a baby? Basically that tells me if I worked in a larger office I'd be getting paid. Makes NO sense to me.
So......I get to use my own earned vacation time for the first 2 weeks off, then I'm eligible for Short Term Disability at 60% of my normal wage for 4 additional weeks.
I just don't see how this is fair. I feel like I'm being punished for deciding to expand my family. I don't know if this is a State of Missouri thing, or a company thing......but it just doesn't seem right.
Usually in any company. If your a part timer, you get no maturinty leave. I don't work but my girlfriend was just complaining about this and had to go back early cause she had bills to pay.
I live in Missouri and you would be lucky to get paid at all for MAternity leave....you havent been there an entire year.....you're part time.....that's luck that you get 60% of pay for 4 weeks even for MLA!
I dont get ANY paid anything i dont qualify for FMLA because i havent been there a year (which is the legal restrictions) but i am full time. I do get MLA but i dont get paid for it....so please consider yourself lucky!
Missouri is the worst state for ANY benefits whatsoever....It sucks living here sometimes!
Evan is 3 and Trevor is 2

I have an in home daycare and I get no maternity leave. I have scheduled myself two weeks of vacation a year. One is paid and the other is not. So I will take one paid and one not paid and come back two weeks after giving birth. That's all I can afford to do. This sucks sooooo bad.
it is sort of the same here in NY. with my first son when iw as working, i had to use my own vacation/sick days to get paid, and then i was able to get on disability for a month or so. similar to what you would have to do. it really stinks.
my old work place said i could take as much time off as i needed, i just wouldnt get paid. (for time off after sick time and vaca time, and then disablity) LOL
I have two friends who had to use short-term disability for their maternity leave because they were part time as well. One of them took took an extra month off with no pay to stay home longer. Some companies just do not care if you expand your family. If you were full time, would your company cover you?

The US has the worst maternity leave benefits ever!!! I read an article looong ago about how other countries offer better maternity leave and opportunities for women in general... some countries i'm sorry i can't remember which ones but some countries will provide maternity leave AND paternity leave PAID!!! our system needs to IMPROVE ASAP!
She's been there 4 years.

My company has over 250 employees, and I've been here a year and a half. We also get ZERO paid maternity leave....I'm just taking my ONE WEEK of paid vacation and then taking the rest of the 3 months off without pay. We are trying to save up in the meantime. UGH. This bites. Oh, and I'm in Florida. Funny, but when I lived in Ohio, I had a full 3 months of paid maternity leave. And WHY did I move???????
My husbands company is a Swiss owned company and if you work over there, they offer 1 year paid paternity/maternity leave and it's mandatory! Unfornuately my husband works in the U.S. branch, but he gets 1 week paid.

Your lucky you get paid at all actually. I work for a company that has well over 300 employees and I work full-time ... when I go on maternity leave here in a few weeks, I will not get paid one cent.
