is it bad to not read up on csections before having your baby?
I say this cause i am wondering if i should be reading up on them, i guess i am just scared to read about them, i am really scared to have one and i hope and pray that i dont have to, but dont you think if i read on csections that it may scare me even more or do you think it would actually help me, cause to be honest, i feel if i have to have a csection they are going to have to sedate me cause i will flip out.
I thought so at first, but now knowing what to expect I feel a lot better. You already know the basics, and that is the scariest part! I've accepted the fact that I'll be having one, and really once I read the facts it made it all easier. Going into it with no knowledge can be a bit disconcerting, I'd imagine. Yes its a surgery, but its fairly routine! Not to mention you can opt for a spinal block instead of an epidural. You fell NOTHING! However if you want an epidural for it, you may feel some pressure or pulling (not pain) but after the surgery some hospitals will sill inject pain meds through the catheter. You'll want to ask your hospital if they do that. Not to mention the incision is a lot smaller than I imagined! That really helped me out LOL, I was thinking it would be HUGE!
As someone who has had a c-section I would say you need to educate yourself. It is better to go into it knowing what is going on than to go into blind. It makes it easier on you to be prepared if it were going to happen (not saying it will). I would just know the basics so that you can know what would take place if for some reason you would end up with one. GL
cool, thanks so much , i will look that up, i am so scared of reading about csections, i feel like it is going to scare me more, i already know they slice open your stomach, ahh, see even wrighting that i got chills. oh i hope i dont have to have one.
Quoting bezark:It's always good to educate yourself as much as possible.
If I were you, I'd start with researching ways to avoid a c-section.
It really is true, a lot of my fears were actually calmed once I found out the truth. Here i was thinking I'd have a scar across my abdomen, when its like a 5in incision on the bikini line. I'm also thinking " OMG I"LL BE AWAKE???" but they put a screen up, and will even play some soft music at some hospitals, plus I'll have my DH with me. Not to mention one plus, c-section babies won't have molded heads!

The being awake thing kind of freaked me out a little, but until they brought my hubby in, the anesthesiologist (who usually stands right by your head on one side) talked to me and rubbed my shoulder and arm. I don't remember there being music, but I was a little out of it and I kept dosing off cause I was exhausted from my labor before hand. Then the anesthesiologist woke me up when they brought my hubby in (I didn't know it was him and even said, "that's not my husband." but then he talked to me and I knew it was him....LOL). And the OB talked to me during the entire thing telling me what she was doing and what I might feel. There is a screen in front of you. The only time I was by myself was right at the beginning when they were getting me ready and when they stitched me up. Both times I had passed out so I was snoozing away...LOL

Really I didn't even think about it. I was so concerned about my son being okay that I didn't even think about me. I was just worried about him. When they got him out and he started crying it was the most beautiful thing I had ever heard. I didn't think about me, not even when I went into shock in recovery (I had other issues so don't think that you will go into shock). Just focus on the baby or something else, pray the whole time, whatever will work best for you to keep your mind off of what is going on. The drs and nurses really do a good job of keeping you calm and talking to you about everything.

I haven't had mine yet, but because of the way the twins are laying, and their immense growth already (low birth weight? Not in this family!) she says it looks like i'll have one. Tips I have heard:
--focus on your coach (Dh, SO, BF, mom, etc)
---request some relaxing music be played
---Have a spinal block done!
---A big screen is up so you can't see anything
---Focus on the fact that you're about to be a mom!!! Have the doc describe your LO to you as he/she pulls them from you.
---You'll be fine :-)
