I just got back from the doctor and he said some news I dont know if I need right now.. I am 23 weeks and my last appt. I had a pap smear done and my results come back abnormal so I asked what that means he said something just didnt come out right so they looked inside with a mircoscope looking thing and he said he did see some signs that just didnt seem right but they cant do much cuz I am pregnant. I dont understand what that means but he thinks I might have HPV which he said is caused by sex,It just doesnt make sense I dont know what to think right now or what should I do HPV can lead to cancer but we cant do anything till after the baby is born..What do I do..

I have HPV and had an abnormal PAP during my last pregnancy.  Like you, they couldn't do anything until after I had the babies.  When I went back for my checkup, they did another PAP and everything came back fine.  It must've been the hormones from the pregnancy throwing things out of whack.  Try to relax and not worry too much about it.  Did you have a test done to prove that it's HPV?

I would not worry too much about it.  Yes, HPV can cause abnormal changes to your cervix and can lead to cancer, but it is still pretty rare to get to that point.  It is not uncommon for pregnant women to find out they have HPV while pregnant.  Same thing with herpes.  It is because your immune system is slightly compromised due to pregnancy (your body is focusing its efforts elsewhere).  Chances are that after you are no longer pregnant, your body will "fix" itself.

As for the HPV itself, 80% of the population will have it at some point or another in their lives.  Most people will not know it and will never have a problem with it.  Having HPV is pretty normal, you just need to be aware if it is causing problems within your body.  Regular pap smears if you are under 30 and a pap plus HPV test if you are over 30 will take care of this for you.  No need to worry in the future.

Please let me know if you have any questions.  I used to work with HPV and would be happy to help answer anything you want  to know.  Good luck!

We all think "it could never happen to me..."  but the truth is its one of the most common std's in the United States.

I have it.  I was raped when I was 16 and found out shortly after that that I'd have to live with this lovely surprise for the rest of my life.  I'm 25 now and its pretty much 'dormant' kind of like... not there.  All my paps since I was first treated have been normal.

Relax, listen, a LOT of people have this, its common, its treatable.  Not cureable, but, it can be treated.  When you have the baby, just make sure you're treated.  If you DON'T treat it, thats when it gets bad... if you DO treat it, you could get lucky like me and damn near not even have the std one day.

Good luck hunny and please if you EVER have any questions... let me know.  I've had it for almost 10 years.  You'll be fine.

i have hpv too and it didnt show up until after i had my baby. most of the time your body gets rid of it by itself and it only leads to cervical cancer in extreme cases so you dont have anything to worry about it. my doctor told me that most women have it at some point in there life, so its real common

I had an abnormal test when i was pregnant and a positive colposcopy.  They didnt take the biopsy then but they saw the redness and stuff.  I just had a negative test a few weeks ago after my sons birth.  It is quite common and usually goes away by itself they just need to monitor you to make sure it does.  It is really scary at first thoug because you think about the baby right away.  Good luck im sure you will be ok.
