I called the nearest 3D/4D imaging place to try and set up an appointment for this week (so I don't have to wait until my 20 week ultrasound) and get an ultrasound and gender check... but they wont do it until I'm 27 weeks... well, they recommend that anyway. She was saying her boss doesn't like to do ultrasounds before moms have had their big ones because if something is wrong, she doesn't want to be put in that position. That makes complete sense, but I've had an ultrasound recently and the doc said baby looks great so far. I know, I'm just hormonal, but I've heard some mommies saying they went and paid for their 3D ultrasound around 16/17 weeks because they were impatient and wanted to know the sex of the baby. So I though, hey, I've got some money... why not go ahead and do that. UGH. Ok... end of my whining. BTW, if anyone has any 3d images of their little ones at 16/17 weeks, may I see them?? I'm just wondering how clearly you can see the face, and gender and such.
my regular ob said waiting until after 25W it was a clearer picture b/c the baby has some fat by then, but its not too squished up and therefore harder to see, my perinatologist did one every appointment though. GL
If you just want a gender check the places near me do them starting at 16 weeks. I did it and it was about five minutes long...he only told me the gender and didn't even talk about anything else. Mine was also a 2D so maybe you should call and say you only want a gender check.
I am paying extra for early gender check at 16 1/2 weeks ! The baby develops the genitals at 11 weeks so they should be easy to see at 16. Your doctor is kinda crazy. My appointment isnt until the 28th of May so it will be a while before I can post those pictures....sorry honey.

if i were you i would wait the pictures arent that clear and for that reason they like to wait... ask for a 2D one it will still tell you the gender and most places will give you a discount on any ultrasounds you have done later on in the same pregnancy.... I am 22 weeks and today DH forced me to make an apointment for a 3D at 23 weeks cause he wants to make sure its a boy and he said he'd pay... im disappointed b/c i know that the pictures wont be that clear especially since im overweight
I had a 3d one at the hospital when I was 17 weeks 2 days, but the gender shot is in 2d... Im almost 30 weeks, and I wanted to get another one done, but IDK if I will have the money... here are the pix *they are kinda creepy and not the greatest quality*
(thats the placenta in front of him) and his face and arm
He was getting mad and waving his fist lol

I am so sorry to hear that they gave you problems. You might want to find another place. When I called to schedule my 4D for the 29th of this month, they didn't even ask me how far along I was. I am currently 21 weeks and will be 22 weeks when the US is done. At the BIG US at 20 weeks she was moving around so much that the tech said girl but the doc couldn't tell cause the image was a little fuzzy. I will be posting my 4D when I am done. I do understand that it is harder for people living outside of congested CA that it is not as easy to find them near you. I hope you can get one done soon Good luck and take care.
Hope you are enjoying everything life brings you.

The place that I went to have mine done, wont do them until after you have had the regular ultrasound at 20 weeks, which I completely agree with. They do this because they only charge $100 for a 4D ultrasound, and regular ones are more expensive because they check everything out. So you have to bring the report from your 20 wk one to the 4D one before they will do it. Honestly...is it that hard to wait until 20 weeks to find out the sex? And also if you get it done at 27 weeks (which is the best time for a 4D) you will get much better pictures, and your baby wont look all skeletal.
