They think maybe baby isn't growing according to "the charts"

I just went in for an appointment because I'm dealing w/ so much pubic pain (which they're referring me to chiro thankfully) and for the 3rd time now baby is not measuring "normal" she's measuring small...little background...they changed my due date from LMP to U/S date because according to the U/S she measured 2 weeks behind, then at 24 week U/S she lost a week and now fundal height is more like 30-31 cm but I'm almost 35 weeks according to LMP (which is what I'm going by because I know my body and I know when we got pregnant)

ANYWAY...all that to say/ask...they're scheduling me for another U/S to make sure she's growing properly or whatever (apparently they want 5'4" (prepregnancy weight 95lb) little me to birth an 8+++ lb baby...uh...OK...right) so I'm wondering has anyone ever had this before...I mean I'm sure she's fine...she's just gonna be tiny and that's OK...I'm guessing birth weight around 6 lb 8-11 oz. My son was 7 lb 7 oz (different & taller father) and my husband is avg. height/weight, so I'm not thinking i'm gonna have a HUGE baby!!

I'm gaining weight fine (35 lbs so far) and started getting toes in my ribs in the morning...so I'm sure she's totally ok....Its just bugging me and I was looking for some input!! :)

Thanks ladies!!

hey....

i feel for you. i have never met my SO's parents as they are both gone, his mom died when he was 4 of lukemia. but i can tell you that my SO was 5 lbs 11 oz at birth adna  full term baby...nothign wrong wiht him at all. and i think it is due to his mom being smaller. and she had 11 kids, he is the youngest of the 11. but all her children were smaller from what i have been told, and there isnt anythign physically wrong wiht them. hope that helps put you at ease.

also, i am sure you know your body, and in knowing your body you are probably right, i bet baby is just fine just gonna be on the smaller side. hope it all works out well for you...

I had the small baby issue with my son and I had gained 50 lbs while prego. He was 18 in and 6 lb when he was born and perfectly healthy. Now that I am pregnant again I am having the opposite problem he is a lb ahead of schedule so this is a new side of that issue that I am dealing with now. I am sure your daughter will be fine and if they are that concerned on how she is developing they can always do an amniocentisis to verify her lungs are fully developed before you deliver if you go into labor at your expected due date. hope that helps

With my first pregnancy they told me my baby was going to be big over 8 pounds and they pushed my due date ahead because of the size she was and the size they wanted... She came 3 days before my LMP due date, and 3 weeks after the U/S due date. She only weighed in at 6 pounds.

So i feel for you. Granted mine was the opposite of yours but I hope everything turns out ok. And with you being small framed then you shouldn't be expecting a big baby of that much. I say just go with your body and if you feel something is wrong voice your opinion.

My cousin just had her baby a week and a half ago and it was the complete opposite situation.  They were telling her how huge her baby was measuring according to more than one u/s and the uterus height.  When she was 34 weeks the ultrasound approximated the baby to be 5.5 pounds, and at 35 weeks the doc said she was measuring 4 weeks ahead and they approximated her to be nearly 7 pounds.  She went into labor on her own at 38 weeks 4 days, and her baby was only 6 pounds.  So I absolutely refuse to listen to whether the doc says the baby will be big or not... there isn't a real definitive way of knowing until the baby comes out.

On the other hand, when my mom was pregnant with my brother they said she was right on track all the way til she gave birth... my brother was early and weighed 11 pounds.  My mom said her gut was telling her it was a big baby despite the docs constantly saying he was right on track... so don't fret what the docs say too much.  I've heard way too many stories about inaccurate weight predictions and i very rarely hear that the doctors were actually right. Good luck :)

There really isnt anyway to tell how big your baby will be until he/she is out.. My dr never told me how big either of my kids we guessed to be even tho i asked i always got the you cant tell answer lol.. And the fact your tiny you baby will more than likely be too.. My son (who has a diff dad) was almost 9lbs at birth and his father is 5'5 and around 150lbs  and they say the second will be around the same weight...well they couldnt be more wrong my daughter was full term healthy baby and she was 6lb but she had a diff dad and he is 6'2  220lbs..and not that it matters but i was tiny until i got preg with my son and now im not even goin to say my weight lol but im only 5'2 but Good luck tho

For my 1st pregnancy they said my daughter had growth restriction, would not be bigger than 5 lbs full term, and I had to go to an Ultrasound specialist weekly my entire 3rd trimester.  She was born 7 lbs, 11 oz and there reaction..."Sometimes were wrong"...

usually it's more important that baby IS growing, then actually how big baby is at any given pint.  U/s can be off by more than 1/2 pound either way...and third trimester fundul weight is very dependant on baby's position and it is not uncommon for it to go up and down and not match up.  Also, the growth scale they use is based on americas average....if you or your husband are below average size, then I would consider it  just genes...or if you guys are a different ethnicity like oriental, or latino...they are smaller generally.  I wouldn't worry much.

Thanks ladies for all your anecdotes and information!! They have me scheduled for Wed afternoon next week. So I'll have more info then. I think she's all stretched out since her big brother cleared the way w/ his 7lb 7oz...so if she's gonna come out a pound smaller then she has plenty of room to swim around LOL
So when I hear back I'll fill everyone in and hopefully they'll have another pic or two I can post :)
