I already knew that breastfeeding was healthy for babies, but I just listening to a pregnancy podcast and heard an interesting fact: "For every one breastfed baby that’s hospitalized, there are 10 formula babies that are hospitalized." I didn't realize that it made that much of a difference! I haven't really had a hard deciding to breastfeed, but for those of who may be trying to weigh your options, you should check out this podcast. http://www.peainthepodcast.com/transcriptions/index.asp?PodcastId=56
i have formula fed all 3 of my kids will be doing so with my next, all my kids are healthy, happy, and VERY smart for their ages...i think its all good for babies...they would put something out their for babies if it was really bad or they would warning labels on it....i am happy with my decision

Yes, and my grandparents drove their car with out seatbelts or carseats for their kids and they're all perfectly fine and healthy.
Just because your kids are "fine" and healthy doesn't mean formula won't be harmful to others. Formula is and always will be second best.
Well that podcast makes people like me feel like CRAP because i physically CANNOT breast feed, i have formula fed all 3 of my children and will be doing it again for #4, My breasts do not make enough milk for the baby to even make a mouth full, and trust me i tried and tried and TRIED again to breast feed and it just never has happen.
So what about woman like me? what if they cannot breast feed , so then the formula we are giveing our babies is harmfull? thats just Fing great... But we have no other choice...

Mom to 3 beautiful Kiddos and 1 beautiful baby boy comming soon!
Obviously if you are one of the 3% of women who truly can not breastfeed, then you have to do what you have to do. However, for women who have the CHOICE, breastfeeding is the healthiest choice for mom and baby. Women who tried to BF and absolutely couldn't shouldn't take offense to stuff like this. If you did your best and didn't succeed, why would you be upset? YOU know you tried, so don't let stuff like this bother you.
OP- I did both with my son. I exclusively BF for 4 months, then he started having a lot of problems (later found out it was due to allergies but we didn't know that until well after I'd stopped BFing), then since he was refusing the breast I pumped for another 4 months so he'd continue to have breastmilk, but with all his problems and the stress of school and the constant pumping, I gave up at 8 months. He's been on a special formula since then (Elecare). Having done both breast and bottle/formula feeding, I have to say- if anyone is trying to decide based SOLELY on convenience factor, breastfeeding is the easiest by far!! It's a win/win in my book- easier and healthier. And helps so much with the weigh loss!

very true but now their are LAWS about having to wear seat belts and be in car seats...so your point is a little off...because their is no law that says formula is harmful, and my kids aren't "fine" they are great! thanks for trying to make a good comparison, but as i said before i am 100% happy with my choice, i do not take offence to what people say about it, everyone has their own opinion...i did what was best for me and my children, and once again they wouldn't put something out their that would be harmful to our babies, and leave it out their lol i just find that funny

i breastfed my son...and he is sick A LOT! so i dont think that it matters now with the dha they put in the formula...
Actually, I believe her point was that back then, people didn't KNOW better, so they did what they thought was best. Now we know better, so we do better. Formula was once thought to be just as good as breastfeeding, but research shows otherwise. Again, know better, do better. That is great that your kids have been healthy so far. Your point is off though- there have been many cases of deaths and illness from tainted formula. Here in the US!

I don't think there is anything wrong with BF or Formula feeding I think it is up to the mother of the baby. You don't love your baby any less if you BF or bottle feed. I bottle feed my first and he is a healthy 16 year old now I BF all my others 3 and they were always sick having seizures and running fever all the time. My 16 year old was NEVER sick and is still never sick. I BF b/c I think its easy just to pull out my boob and feed my baby and I dont have to mess with bottles and getting up in the middle of the night to make a bottle. We are all diffrent and if you want to bottle feed or BF its your choice.
Breastfeeding is BEST for EVERY baby.
It is a live food, formula is not. Breastmilk contains over 100 ingredients that are not found in formula because they can't be replicated... Formula is VERY inadequate nutrition.
Will formula kill your baby? Probably not. It does have risks though and doesn't offer all of the protection breastmilk does against things like asthma, allergies, crohn's, IBS, ear infections, etc.
Breastmilk changes from feed to feed to meet each individual childs needs, formula does not. Breastmilk contains everything needed to grow a child to their full potential, formula is merely adequate nutrition.
There is NO comparison between the two, NONE.
I am a Canadian, breastfeeding (it IS best, there is nothing even close to that nutrition and bond), co sleeping, extended rear facing (if you don't rear face to the maximum of your seat, you're NOT doing all you can to protect your child), baby wearing, Non spanking (I want my kids to respect me, not fear me) ANTI- CIO, homemade baby food making, cloth diapering, organic (chemical free household!) recycling mama to TWO! My husband is my equal and best friend, not my master and I believe basic health care should be a human RIGHT, not a privilege.

Cigarettes were once advertised as good for you. Look at how long it took for there to be anti tobacco campaigns and education on that. They are now required to warn you of the risks. That took DECADES!
More and more information is being put out there... Even the FDA states that formula is not and never will be as good as breastmilk. Human milk is the biological norm, how can you not expect consequences by feeding an artificial substitute?! That blows my mind!
