Homeschooling or Pre K?

Do you homeschool your child/children instead of enrolling them in Pre K/Headstart? Just curious my son is 3 1/2 and he has a speech delay, he is going to his speech class which is an hour away every Friday, & I am not sure whether to enroll him in a headstart/Pre K which is 30 minutes away since we live out in the boonies. If you homeschool your child/children what do you teach them? I'd really love some input!

I plan to this fall. DD will be almost 3. I just looked up programs online. I bought some workbooks at the dollar store too.

I know alot of moms here are going to homeschool for preschool and some beyond. I would love to give some advice since we homeschool and I used to teach preschool. The most important thing is to keep it simple and fun. Kids learn best through play and hands-on activities. I do a letter a week and do fun activities with it. For example: A is for apple, alligator, airplane, etc. We read a book(or 4) about something with an A, then we do a special snack, usually 2-3 crafts and a song if its available. I do use workbooks but we only do a page or so a day. You cand find really inexpensive ones at the Dollar Tree or $1 spots at stores. Walmart puts out some great ones. I highly recommend the "everything for early learning". They usually run between $5-$6. It covers everything basic and can do more things to branch out. Kumon makes some wonderful hands-on workbooks but they are around $7 and up. But I have read wonderful reviews for these. We have the cutting one and it is Jake's favorite book. PLus as they go through it, the lessons get more challenging to keep the kids entertained. Heres a link *** one thing I do is if I find a fun workbook, I will put the pages in page protectors so that they can use them again and again with a dry erase marker. It keeps the cost down and its great for in the car. There are a ton of free resources that help keep the costs down. From everything from file folders(which I can show everyone how to make) to free printable.Below I have listed the ones I use. Free websites and blogs I recommend( and use daily). www.letteroftheweek.com (all free and one of the best ones to use) http://prekinders.com... http://www.childcarel... http://www.makinglear... http://www.tlsbooks.c... http://www.beginningr... These are the blogs that do something called tot school(for when the babies reach one years old) and also do a bible perschool. http://www.1plus1plus... (this is my favorite website. She is very organized and hosts the tot school and preschool link ups. She has free wonderful printables and has a ton of followers. http://delightfullear... (she does a ton of great printables for all different ages and she hosts fun events too.She also does reviews of new homeschool products and curriculums.) http://confessionsofa... (this is my second favorite one, especially for ABC activites. She has it all). I can give you more but these are the main and best ones. ON the right side of their blogs, you can connect to other blogs that have great ideas also. This is a wonderful site that is FREE for your kids. Its an all in one stop for homeschooling. It gives you lessons and book lists but also takes care of your grading and record keeping, all in one place. http://www.lessonpath... I have a ton of ideas if anyone is looking for anything specific and I can give you more ideas and I can even share some of my stuff.

My DD will start PreK late. She will be 4 Dec 15th.. and the dead line is Sept 1st. I thought about the whole preschool thing but thinking about just doing it at home. My oldest had a very bad experience with preschool and I am hesitant now. She knows most of what a Prek student should know since I've been workng with her as it is. I did have a few websites that I used in Germany... I will see if i can find them for others.

OMG! Thank You SO MUCH for all these wonderful ideas! I'm def going to be checking these out! & here I was feeling very confused about enrolling my ds into Pre K cus we only have one vehicle while my husbands truck is getting re worked on and my husband works alot of overtime & goes to Welding school in the afternoon so it would be very hard to try to take him. I was very confused though because other mamas that I run into keep telling me "oh you need to enroll him in Pre K or Headstart cus he should be talking by now" you think thats very opinionated a lady told me "your son is only 11 months he shouldnt be walking yet, he's way too little to be walking already"  yea...I almost snapped but I just smiled back and kept my mouth shut! I'm just so confused bc I want whats best for my children and I dont know if i should enroll my ds into a Pre K. We dont qualify for Headstart since it goes by income. So my 2nd option was Pre K.....
