Pulling Out Her Own Hair! ACK! - New info in RED

I work in a playroom at a gym. The other day, DD was there with me and she seemed fine. She had been mad earlier--throwing lots of little fits, but she had gotten over it and was playing.

I was talking to a parent picking up her child when I turned around and noticed a chunk of my daughter's blonde hair on the black floor. WTH? My co-worker saw it too. There weren't any other kids near her. Confused, I picked it up and threw it away.

Tonight at home, she was sitting in her high chair and she was mad because I wouldn't get her our until she finished her banana. She was over-tired and cranky. I was in the kitchen and when I went in to check on her, she was holding a chunk of her hair!!!

She is 2 1/2 and VERY, VERY verbal. She is speaking in complex sentences and has been for a long time. So it's not communication frustration.

Why is she doing this and how can I get her to stop????

***I just realized something else. We have been getting on her about pulling the dog's fur. She's trying to force him to sit on her lap, so she grabs whatever she can get her hands on (feet, tail, ears, fur) and pulls. She's not trying to hurt him, and I always stop her, and (God bless him) he loves her and handles it really well. But I have told her over and over again "Don't pull Cooper's fur. It's like pulling hair. It's ouchy!" Maybe she's testing that theory on herself when she's angry...***

I would keep her hair in braids, I think braids would harder to rip out. Maybe seek a behavior specialist? My son used to bang his head on the ground. Until one day he smacked his head so hard he had a monkey bump....never did it again.

I was thinking about braids. I'm terrible at doing hair, but I guess it doesn't matter if it's perfect. Her hair is super fine, so it's not easy to do anything with and of course, she won't sit still either!

She is a very stubborn little girl... just like her mama.

I would say so just to seek info. Shes young and most likely doesn't know how to handle her frustration.

whatever it is, I hope she gets it out of her system before she hits the teen years. I'll be in my 50s by then.

Yea sounds like this to me, that's not usually something a toddler does when mad.
