My DD is 4 and she started doing something that really bothers me. She is biting her skin on her fingertips. idk why or what to do about it. Everywhere we go,when shes going to bed or just around the house she has one of her fingers in her mouth. Someone told me to put onion on her fingertips cause it would make them taste bitter. Does anyone have any suggest6ions or has anyone dealt with this before??

Hey mama,

Its a nervous habit.  My son is notorious for it to, to the point he's gotten staph infections on his hands/fingers before :/.  I have tried to figure out how to get him to stop.  I have noticed that when he's happy at school (which means, he's challenged) then he doesn't do it nearly as often.  But as soon as I starte sensing boredom them he starts at it again.

Perhaps you should look at her life to see what could be a little unsettling. Doesn't even have to be big :).

Good luck mama

Don't use that or any of the other bitter polishes!! They get in the fingers and they taste it whenever they eat something with their hands! Yuck!!
I agree with talking to her. Maybe she can tell you why. Maybe try putting mittens on her hands do she can chew on them without causing damage to her fingers.

I wouldn't put onion on her fingers. She may wipe her eyes and it would sting. They have something called Thumb that you can paint on their fingers. It's bitter and used to keep kids from sucking their thumbs and fingers.

I used to do it as a little kid. I don't know the cause, probably anxiety. Of something or other. I grew out of it. My mom tried fingernail polish. I didn't work. Istill chewed them and peeled them and chewed the sking from the corners. Good luck

It's only on one finger. It's bitter and it works. It didn't get on my food when my mom used it on me.
