My child is in so much trouble!

Ugh! I just want to scream in frustration! My 4 year old has been horrible since I picked him up from school today. First, he refused to come with me because he didn't get to have his face painted before I came. He was literally running around in circles not letting me pick him up. I finally got him to leave. Then after dinner we went to his soccer practice. He was doing fine until it actually started. He kept sticking his tongue out at his coach when the coach asked him to do something. He was not listening to anyone. So, I got fed up with his disrespectful behavior and took him home. On the car ride home he started screaming at me because I wouldn't give him my drink. He had his own right there in his cup holder. When we got home I told him to go upstairs and get ready for his bath. I quickly ran out to my car to get my purse. Well, the little stinker didn't go all the way up. He hid behind this little wall thing, came back down (it's like 4 steps) and locked me out of the house.
As his punishment I decided to take away his most precious items: his angry bird collection. I made him put EVERYTHING angry bird related into a trash bag and put it next to the garbage cans. He cried the whole time. I'm not actually going to throw them away, but I want him to see that there are consequences for his actions. He also lost any tv privileges that he had until he can start acting like a big boy again.
This isn't the first time he's been bad, obviously, but today he crossed all sorts of lines with his behavior. I know he knows better because he normally is a good kid. But for the past two weeks, he has had such a difficult time respecting other people. I don't want him to be " that kid" so I'm putting my foot down now before he turns into a little brat.
Please don't bash me for his punishments, as I already feel embarrassed enough by his behavior today. Hopefully tomorrow will be a much better day for him. And hopefully by me taking away his favorite stuff he will learn that he can't get away with everything.
Sigh. :(

You are not alone. I think there are lots of kids between the ages of 3 & 4 acting this way this week.
DD has been in a terror this while week even got in trouble at school for pouring paint in the floor. ( long story ).
Her teacher said something must be in the air because most of her 3-4 year olds have been acting out over the last couple of weeks.

No bashing from me, my 4 year old ever acted like that and he would have a very red sore butt.

He did get a spanking for locking me out. That ticked me off more than anything because I didn't even have my phone on me!

We all have those days. My dd had a bad week last week.  I think you did the right thing.  It's hard, but sometimes you have to do it.   You have to take what they really like away, otherwise, there's no point, ya know? Good luck. Hope he has a better day tomorrow.

My 4yo has lost many of his favorite toys and his computer privileges last week. He is very slowly earning them back

The day my (then 4 yr old... fancy that!) locked me out of the house was the day he got his first spanking.  Good thing I had my keys with me... it was below freezing (middle of winter) and my toddler was with me outside.  He lost ALL privilages (tv, dessert, and reading and song time before bed) for the entire week along with his swat.  I was soooooooo mad!!!!

Now he's over 5, and he acts so much better (but still has some moments occasionally).  It does get better!!!!!!
