Reading and my 3 1/2 yr old

When my son was between 2 and 2 1/2, he LOVED it when I read to him or when my dh read to him.

Because life got hectic, we haven't been reading to him as much, though, now and again we'll sit and read with him.

But now, he can hardly sit still to be read to and is much more disinterested!

How can I get him interested in reading again?

Just read outloud in the same room and encourage him to listen. He will eventually pick it back up. Forcing him to read will just make him hate it for life.

Both my kids went through the same stage. They were addicts and then hated it and now they are addicts again and can't get enough.

Kids go through that kind of stage. You could try reading to him on a different device like a nook or other type of e-reader, he can choose whether YOU read to him or the nook does.

You can also ask him to tell you a story and write it down for him, let him draw pictures, put his book together and read it to him or ask him to read it to you.

Instead of reading TO him, get some books and ask him to read a story TO you, it doesn't matter if he cant read, he'll like making up his own words to go along with the pictures.

Just read out loud. Sometimes while I'm reading to my ds he'll get up and start doing flips or playing with toys. I'd sto reading and my ds would say "keep going, I want to know what happens"

He was still listening he just needed to get up and move.

Ask him to "read" it to you and take turns reading the pages. My 3 year old loves to tell me what the page says (even though she can't read the words).

Do you remember at what age when they loved it and when they hated it and when they picked it back up?

Oh and of course, thank you for all the responses fellow mommies!   :)
