DSS 5th birthday is coming up, and I had an idea to get him a leap pad (he really wants to read) but they're freaking expensive!

Has anyone got their LO one?  Is it worth it? Do they last?

We gave our son (5, May 25th) my husband's color Nook. Aiden uses it way more than dad did. And dad can still read books if he wants
Aiden plays games, it reads to him, he watches shows (and we can put shows/movies on a memory card). Every night he listens to his "sleepytime music" (classical, jazz or new age). We have it set so it can't go above "G". He can run that bugger like no one else!
BEST idea ever.  He is super careful with it. We keep it up, plugged in until he asks to use it. We don't just leave it out and about. It stays plugged in on the counter. And if he misbehaves, the Nook goes into time-out. No playing with it or using it for night music. Period.

It has a case on it, that is pretty durable.

We have several leap pad items and the books to go with it are so darn expensive. :(  If your heart is set on a leapster-item, check Craigslist. :)

We don't have one. Did you try looking on ebay? Sometimes they have good deals

I've tried ebay and amazon, but I didn't even think of craigslist (duh Trysh)  I want to try to get the new one you can download onto, with the camera...  It'll have the rules you just stated.  How much are Nooks?  I have a kindle but he's just learning to read so I want color, ya know.

Good luck!!  I hope you find what you want :)

The Color Nooks (which you can "color" with them) are around $250ish. Hubby bought it last Oct. He never uses it. Aiden uses it daily.

the one I found on craigslist was actually more than the one at walmart or toysrus new :-/ I think I'm gonna try to get it through e-bay... not to mention the people wanted $30 a game on craigslist.... and new they're only $20 for the ones they're selling.

OK, I asked dh, and he said YES, the kiddos can color on the Color Nook. I have an older Nook (black and white), and all I can do is listen to music and read (and surf LOL).

DH said you should be able to go to Android Market, and find free programs to color (we have Android phones) :D for your Kindle. So if you don't go for the Color Nook, go look and see what free programs for your Kindle *heart*.

Let me know what you decide!
