Need advice on the final potty step!

Ok, we got the potty training down, but how do I teach a little boy to wipe his own behind?  I have tried and have been met with disaster!  How he managed to get it up his back, on his tummy and down a leg I will NEVER know.   What can I do??

My son and daughter just kind of figured it out themselves!

My son is 5 1/2 and can wipe himself but it takes 1/2 a roll :)  i usually finish up to make sure he's clean.  3's a little young but just keep him working at it.

My son is 4.5 and still struggling. He doesn't get it all over himself, but he doesn't get clean either.

We have also told him he needs to wipe until it's clean. We've tried flushable wipes; he hates them. Someone in this group suggested having a stack of TP already ripped into 3-4 sheets to keep him from using too much... But I haven't made that happen yet. :-)

My son had been potty trained for almost a year and a half. Wiping is just hard to figure out, I think. It's a hassle for us as moms I know, but I think this is one that requires additional support/patience.

Thank you, ladies :)  It seems maybe I was worried he wasn't advancing on something that really he might be too young to catch onto right now.....

Continue to help him for a year or two.

My big ds did not get that part down until he was about 4.5 or so. Maybe get him some Kandoos or other flushable wipes.

3 is still young to know how to properly wipe their bums.  my dd is 3 and can't even reach all the way back there (to do it the proper way).  she can do it back to front (NO!) so i help her.  i've been told by many moms that they don't properly do it utnil they're closer to 5/6yrs old
