When does it end?

When is a child supposed to give up putting everything in the mouth? My toddler is 2 and he almost always has things in his mouth. Always has. I still have to fish little things (caps, covers, paper, rocks, sticks, etc.) out of his mouth. When is this supposed to end?

They usually stop around age one but some kids have a higher need to satisfy their oral sensory needs.
