My daughter turned 2 on June 3 and we converted her crib to a daybed and put a small rail up. She did great at first. This is the 3rd week in this "new" bed and she constantly gets out of bed. Mostly during nap time. When my son was moved to a toddler bed, he only got up during the first week and we did spank him any time he got up. Eventually, he got the hint and stayed in bed. Well, the spankings are not working for my daughter. She gets up within the first 5 mins of putting her to bed. She gets 1 warning and then any time after that, she gets a pop. Last night, I was talking to my husband saying that the pops aren't working because less than a min after she gets a pop, she's out of the bed again, standing in the doorway. She'll do this for a good 10-30 mins before finally falling asleep.
She has started doing this at night too, and last night was the first time she got up at 2am to stand in the doorway. She didn't go back to sleep til like 5am. Needless to say, I'm quite tired lol. She should be asleep by now since she was up for 3 hrs, but she keeps getting out of bed. I have tried closing the door, but she just comes over to open it. I've tried leaving it cracked and she still comes over to open and peek into the living room.
I dont' know what to do. Every time I see that she's up, I go in and make her get back in the bed. I am consistent with her, but it's taking a long time.
And before ya'll start, I don't want to hear how terrible I am for spanking my kids. It worked for my 1st kid but it's not working for her.
