Should I change her diet to calm her down??

I don't think my daughter has ADD she is generally well behaved but she has a terrible case of (what I refer to as) ants in the pants and it seems like she is pretty much never still! She has a huge desire to learn but I don't know how many times of have repeat mysel asking her to listen, listen, listen. It seems to be getting slightly worse as she gets older not better. She just always squirms, spins, jumps, climbsand crawls around on the floor where ever we go and if I make her stop she says she can't and then starts to cry.  She just finished her first year of preschool and the teacher had similar issues with Zoe sitting stil, being a distractraction and being able to focus on whats going on. I was hoping maybe if I make some adjustments to her diet it would help and thats when I stumbled on the Feingold diet. It sounds both extensive and expensive though, so I'm nervous. If I do it I want to  get started on it before school starts back andmaybe  it will make a huge differnce in her abilty to do well! Do any other moms have experience with this diet or any others similar??? Please let me know!

Well, you could try cutting down on her sugar and food colorings and see if that helps. I have two kids with sensory issues a d both have some sensory seeking behaviors like hers. It helps to give them "heavy work" first before trying to get then to do anything calm. Anything that has them push, pull, jump, etc to use those large muscles helps calm them.

This is exactly what my sons therapist told us to do. Lots of heavy work will help him focus his body.

Omg yes. I swear by it!!! There are ways to avoid a full on feingold program to see if it helps your child first but I would highly recommend buying the books with in a few weeks if it seems to workforce her. I sent a ton of information including my shopping lists to a mamma yesterday who seemed to be having some issues with her lo to get her started. Pm me your regular email and I will copy and paste all the info together and send it your way.

Also check out the die food dye blog and her fb page. She has been an amazing resource for a dye free mammas who aren't feingold families. The feingold program does all the research and provides grocery lists of safe foods to give your family as well as a resturaunt guide. We have done both and thank God we did.

My sons dye based reactions are crazy and results can usually been seen in as little as a few days or maybe two weeks. Its easiest to change over the whole house instead if the diet for one person. That way she cab eat all the food you have and she isn't denied something that isn't safe.

My son does NOT have ADHD (he can focus on things for HOURS) but he dose have this "ants in the pants' condition too.  I have started doing a few things.

1. Re-evalutate his medications.  Do any of them cause hyperactivity?  iF so, are there equivelents that dont?  FOr Caden it was his SIngulair.  We just were able to stop it since its not his "asthma season" anymore.

2. Instituted meditation. I kknow, I sound so yogi, but it works.  I sit Caden down next to me and we just close our eyes together and slow down.

3. Tae Kwon Do.  I don't know if all studios are like this or not, but mine is fantastic at teaching focus, discipline and many other characteristics that I want to instill in my child.  I think hearing it from another adult really helps!

This. Also as a testimony, the kids that I nannied for BOTH have ADD. Well their mom took them to a doctor and they tried to prescribe medicine for them. Anyway, their mom didn't like that and so she took the boys home and researched. She came up with eliminating red dye. Well she did this change. Now, let me tell you that it does NOT happen over night and it takes time. After about a month, things changed for the better. They now focus better, listen better, and are doing better in school.

We started with yellow dyes because they made him throw up. We didn't see a notable change until we eliminated all dyes and preservatives

It doesn't have to be expensive. Eliminate all dyes, start cooking most everything from scratch, eliminate processed foods, buy meat without nitrates (that's the last one we did). Increase protein and Omega 3s. Cook with healthy oils, olive, sunflower, coconut...etc. It takes 10-14 days to see a difference. You can start out eliminating just a few at a time and see if you will need to go full out. We do all of the above, we check labels and now we know. Fresh or frozen vegetables (should be easy to get now) and fruit should be in at least two meals. In some form or another. You will notice that even the simplest things have additives if you aren't careful. Applesauce, juice, Popsicles, canned fruit, etc...
Hope that helps! If you have any questions you can just pm me. :)
