Kindergarten Question

Normally you get something in the
Mail a few weeks before school starts....our school has the supply list up on its website, and I've seen list starting to show up at walmart, so I'm sure target getting theirs ready too..when DS went to kindergarten he didn't take a change of clothes....but he did sneak his monkey into his bag....never took it out but he knew it was there with him....he only went half day so no lunch...Thursday is our school "folder day" where any info is sent home.....as for dd who starts kindergarten in aug. she is going all day and will have to take a lunch....and I'm sure she will follow her brother and sneak her favorite stuff animal in her back (it changes day to day). Both kids will have an updated "contact" list in their backpack in case they need it....although its something they have us fill out in back to school night too so the teachers have something in their file.
Also in the winter I always make sure they have a extra pair of gloves in their bag just in case :-)

I would go ahead and send a change of clothes for the first few weeks...the excitement of kindergarten can cause even the best potty trained pros to have an accident and nobody wants to wear soiled clothes or be embarrassed in front of their new friends

Our school had the kindy kids leave a set of clothes in their classroom at the start of the year, no need to carry them back and forth. As far as what to pack in their back pack, not much. The school supply list is for supplies you will take to the teacher. In my DD's back pack I only packed an information card with her name and class #/teacher name in case she got lost (school supplied the card and required this), a pic of our family in a protective ziploc bag for her to look at if she got sad during the day, and her lunch box on days she wasn't buying lunch. She also had a school supplied homework folder and spiral bound agenda that she carried back and forth.

Thanks. I never thought of putting a photo in the backpack. I think I will do that. My Daughter is a bit nervous about starting kindergarten.

I would wait.  My dd is also starting in September, and I have yet to get any info.  But she was in preschool in the same school system, and last year was the same thing.  

Im sure there will be a list, so no point in buying just yet....you may end up having to get more/other things.

 I plan to just put her school supply list in her bookbag.

Walmart or any other store that sells school supplies should have a list. As far as what to put in her backpack.........i would suggest an extra change of clothes. Even elementary kids have accidents sometimes.

Here we have a registration day. Where you feel out any paperwork, meet teacher, get supply list, etc... Usually a week or two before school starts.

My oldest went to kindergarten last year and the school provided everything basically. All I bought was a backpack for her. I always kept extra clothing in it for her. I know for the other grades at least for my dd's school, they had a list at registration. My dd was the opposite she couldnt wait to start school.

I'm in the same boat, I took have a Son who will be starting kindergarten.  His school posted a list of things.  In addition, I will make sure he has a change of clothes, and at least 2 small snacks, (never know).  I am brand new at this, so I'm feeling my way.  Good luck.
