Can a teacher give out names and phone numbers for a playdate?
I read somewhere that you can contact your child's new teacher before school starts to get help setting up playdates for your child. That way the kids will be familiar with each other before day 1. Anyway, I want to invite a few girls from my daughter's new kindergarten class to her birthday party on the 11th. School doesn't start until Monday, the 13th. Do you think the teacher will help? I can e-mail her. Should I ask?
In our school, no they can't. However if you ask the teachers they can send notes home to ask the parents if it is ok to give their number to other parents for things like that. They will then make a list of parents who signed the paper saying it was ok and pass it out to all parents.
I know in our district, that is absolutely a big no, no. We have to respect the confidentiality of each child.
Personally if I were the teacher & a parent came to me & said "Can I get Jacob's phone number so I can call his mom & set up a playdate with Shawn?" I would ask her to leave Jacob's mom a note with HER phone number & I would be happy to make sure that it gets in Jacob's take home folder.
Unless there is a class roster that has this info & the parents have agreed for their info to be published I would not give out anyone's phone number without their consent.
