My grandmother passed away yesterday so we my children (13 and 2) hightailed it across the state this evening so I could be with my mother, well we're at my great aunt's, it's four am and my toddler is refuses to sleep here. New people, new environment, new noises....he can't so I can't. I'm so tired as is he....I don't remember the tricks of the trade for getting a tot to relax in a new environment, please refresh my memory....I have migraines everyday as it is. I need sleep to grieve with my mom and do what I can to help

My daughter was that way.  She wouldn't sleep anywhere but her own crib.  We just had sleepless nights when we were away from home.  I hope you can get some sleep, and I am sorry for your loss.

can you go for a walk after dinner, sit in a dim room before bed and read familiar stories? cuddle & rock him?a warm bath?

try to keep his bedtime routine as close to home as possible.

good luck and I am very sorry for your loss.

Maybe lay down with your children? You sound like you need rest too.

Can you drive around till he falls asleep??? That always works for my 2.5 year old. If she is even a little tired the car puts her out fast.

:-) Yes Ma'am I am definitely laying down with him....this afternoon he thought if he cried long enough i'd let him get off the bed....in was so hard to be that close to an ear splitting tantrum, But I just laid, there migraine and all and pretended to sleep until he really did, and then slept myself for a little while.

I miss those days.....he loooves the car. We drove here last nite and arrived past midnite, he was awake the whole time. Maybe tonite will be better, kinda has to be. Visitation is tomorrow, I need a "pleasant demeanor" from him....lots of stranger will be in his face talking to him, quiet stressful for a two yr old.

Does he have blankets or stuffed animals he's attached to?  Did you recently stop the bottle or pacifier?  If so, I'd give it back for this short time.  I'm thinking he's going to be exhausted tonight if you keep him up this afternoon and you guys will sleep well tonight.  GL and sorry for your loss.
