How young can they start and does it cost??
I keep getting different statments. Some say it's just day care and it does cost and some say it is not day care and it does not cost.
My son is 1 by the way.

In my opinion, its preschool at age 3 and pre-kindergarten at age 4. That said, I homeschool and do no formal learning until age 4.
It depends on the school you choose. We looked into a public option for my son and it was a class at one of 2 high schools and was $120ish/month. I refused expecting it was more of a class for high school kids vs. an actual preschool for my child. We also looked at 2 play-based preschools that weren't for us either. I stay at home and they were too much like a daycare for my taste. He could play trains and dress-up here, I wanted him in a school environment. That was about $275/month. We ended up going with a Montessori that 2 of my nieces had attended. We spend $370/month for 3 mornings/week (9:00-12:30) and the only criteria for starting is being potty trained. My son started pre-school just before turning 4 then did 1 year of pre-k and is in K now. My daughter is in the preschool now and started just after turning 3. Best money we have ever spent. My son is in public K now and is at the top of his class!!!!
There are dozens of preschool curriculums out there. A few of my favorites are:
Horizons Preschool
Christian Liberty Press Preschool
Oak Meadow Preschool
Little Acorn Learning
Sonlight P3/4

My Daughters preschool starts at age 3. Age 4 they have a option for regular preschool and/or kinder ready program. It is run by the city. My Daughter went 4 days a week and it was $240.00 a month.
It all totally depends on where you live and what is offered (the bigger the city, the more options you'll have...that's good and bad!)
Here preschools start at age 3, if you choose to go this early. Most places offer 2-4 hours, so many days of the week, all at a cost. Starting at age 4 most of the school districts offer free preschool, and at least in our district it's 4 days a week, almost all day long. There are also day cares that have "preschool" as part of the day care services.
For us, we chose to send our boys at age 3 for 2 days a week. At age 4 we continued to send them to the private preschool instead of the free public one because we love our preschool that much. My oldest went 3 days the second year, but my 4yo goes 4 days this year. For us it's all about socialization, with some learning mixed in (we do a lot at home, but they still learn things at preschool we can't teach at home or haven't taught at home).
ooohhh I can't wait to move back to CA I miss my home and family.
