Bedwetting

My 3 year old daughter is completely fine going to the potty during the day, but at night she pees the bed every time. We have even tried limiting her drinks before bedtime. Right now we have resorted to wearing pullups on her at night because she doesn't wake up after she does it either and we don't want her laying in her pee! Her matteress has a plastic cover on it, so I don't worry about that as much. Someone told me that wearing the pullups on her is encouraging it and as long as she is not making a big mess and making herself completely uncomfortable she will do it for as long as she can get away with it. That sounds a bit harsh to me, and I really don't see letting her sleep in her wet bed!

Who has dealt with this, and how did you deal with it?

Some people wet the bed till 12 I've heard they either are extremely hard sleepers or they haven't developed the hormone to slow the production of urine and since your dd doesn't wake up when she wets the bed I'll bet she just sleeps super hard she'll out grow it one day she's only 3 anyway that's pretty commen for her age

I wet the bed until I was 9, my mom tried everything, punishing me, giving me prizes ect... when she realized I couldn't help it was when I would throw my pull-up away in the morning and then put on a dry one and tell her I was dry so I could get a prize, when she found out that I was doing that I asked her "How do I be dry?" and she realized I couldn't help it. She also wet the bed until she was 9 years old and one day it just stopped.

Age matters mostly due to physical readiness. I agree an emotionally stunted older child would seem similiar in regards to their behavior, but at 3.5 in many children the physical readiness to stay dry isn't there yet. The OP should try to be patient. She will stay dry once her body is ready. Op can offer rewards but if the signal isn't waking her up, neither child nor parent can fix that.

actually its not much different digitally if an older child is emotionally younger.... but thanks for your input

op be consistent maybe give her an incentive like a star or sticker chart

Quoting Ktina11:

3.5 and 8 are VERY different with regards to potty issues. Glad it worked for your neice but for this 3.5 yr old it is completely normal to not wake up to urinate.

something is lacking in her life. my niece who lives with me is eight and was doing the same thing... we just set up a consistent routine... same bedtime every night limited drinks after 6pm..... and now she rarely had an issue

Of course it's okay, she's three years old.  My sister had a bedwetting problem until she was 10 years old.  She didn't do it every night after a certain age, but she would do it.  My mom limited drinks and she continued to do it.  I think it has more to do, at my sister's age, with heavy sleeping, dreaming she's using the restroom.

Pull up isn't going to encourage her to pee the bed, she just isnt realy to sleep through the night without wetting herself.

still wetting the bed at 3 is still TOTALLY normal. the average age to be TOTALLY potty trained (including nights) is not until 5. my son turned 4 in september and still about once or twice a month he will wet the bed. It happens. It isnt a big deal. He comes in and tells me, i get up and change his bed and dont make a big deal about it. there is no point in punishing her by laying in a wet bed if her body and brain just arent PHYSICALLY ABLE to hold it over night yet.

Both of my boys wet the bed until they were 10-11.  I tried potty pagers, waking them up (that stinks), limiting drinks etc.  They finally grew out of it.  Believe it or not, time goes by so quick with our children.  Don't worry about it so much.  and yes, I did use pullups on them.  (even discreetly at sleepovers)

she is 3, most peds don't even worry about night time bed wetting until after the age of 6. It is totally normal for her to still be wetting the bed, especially if she is a heavy sleeper.

I personally wet the bed up until almost 12. I was (and still am) a very heavy sleeper. I didn't realize that I needed to wake up to pee. We had to go see a specialist and use an alarm that went off in my ear when the sensor (sewn into my undies) got wet. At 3, just use the pullups.

It's normal for a 3 year old to wet the bed, my sister did the same thing. What my Mom had to do was get up in the middle of the night with her and take her to the bathroom until she learned to wake up herself and go when she needed to.

I would take other precautions like not giving her juice before bed, that helped my oldest son; he only ever wet the bed once he turned 3 if he had juice before bed, but he wouldn't go to the bathroom during the day. I had to take him outside for the day in just his underwear and shorts and he didn't like being wet. I would change him after he wet himself and it only took 1 week to potty train him.

This...except it's my DD who is almost 6. She's hit and miss. However my 4 year old hasn't had a bed wetting accident in months. Every kid is different. Your DD will stop eventually, OP, so just keep with the pull ups for now! :)

My stepson just turned 6, and still wets the bed. He wears a pull up to bed. His doctor told us that it's normal, and it should go away with time.

We don't let him drink past 7, he pees before bed at 8, and sometimes we even wake him up in the middle of the night. He still wets at night.
