It isn't croup but they tell you to take them in cool night air for croup so you could try that. Setting him a steamy bathroom can help too. Otherwise, just let it run its course. Call the doc if the cough becomes barky like a seal. Hope he feels better soon.

I know it sucks when your kids are sick and you can't do anything but I always just let stuff run it's course. Hope he's feeling better soon.
Saline and suctioning help keep him cleaned out. Depending on the severity of congestion, I have y 2 year old saline himself as frequently as every 45 minutes just to get the gunk flowing and not settling in his lungs. If he starts wheezing, sounds like chrunching whenhe breathes) then call the doc back for nebulizer.
Awww, poor thing. Its aways so annoying when they aer sick like this :( . You feel so bad for them but there isn't much you can do other than make them comfy.
You are right with the humidifier.
You can also get saline nose spray to loosen the gunk. Also, get a BabyComfyNose to help suction out the goop. That will help the most IMO.
And if the coughing is too bad you can put Vick's on thier feet and cover them with socks :). I don't know why this works, but it does.
Also, warm baths are really nice. I believe Johnson and Johnson makes a bath bubble mix that has something like Vick's in it to help as well.
When it comes to coughs, I have used a tea spoon of honey before bed. It has always helped. Also, rubbing Vic's on the bottem of his feet at bed time too. Odd, I know, but it works. I've done it for my colds too.
