Do you let your preschooler crack eggs or handle raw meat when they are helping in the kitchen?

Yes. I just explain that being sanitary while cooking a big deal and to always wash your hands thoroughly after.

Eggs yes, meat no. Eggs are a lot easier to wash off whereas meat sticks and can really be hard to thoroughly clean

I let my 4 year old crack eggs...she has done this for a while. I don't let her handle raw meat though. She can usually crack the egg without getting much or any on her hands.

No, not really.  Mostly because he refuses to eat meat and he's allergic to eggs and some other foods.

But, he does help me in teh kitchen.  He's good at stirring pasta for me and blowing it before it boils over.

Actually, he's also good at math, so he understands fractions.  So, he's great at helping me measure.

I do.  Of course we always talk about hand washing. I explained to him (and I do everytime we cook) that when meat is raw it can make us sick and thats why we can't touch anything else until we wash our hands. He's big on hand washing anyway, and hates being dirty. But it all depends on the meal and how complicated it is if he help cook.
