Toddlers & Preschoolers Toddlers & Preschoolers
My 20 month old refuses to give up his paci. I got rid of his bottle at 1 year and switch his to soppy cups he had no problem with that. It's that dang pacifier. I only let him have it when he's Laying down. I need tips on how to slowly make him forget about it. He has the best memory so it's had to act like he doesn't have one

Just take it away. He can't do anything about it if it's not around, right? he'll get over it in a few days probably if it's just gone.

At his age, I wouldn't even do it slowly.  I'd just take it away.  Good luck.

I used to cut my sons pacifier a little bit at a time. He hated trying to suck on a cut up paci and it worked

Cold turkey.
Out of sight out of mind.
It'll be rough at first but they get over it.

I did cold turkey with DD. She had it 24/7. During the day she had it and when we got home I gathered them all up while she was playing in her room and hid them. Even cut a paci off of a little stuffed puppy. She asked for it at bedtime and I told her that I didn't know where they were and that I'd look for them. LOL She asked the following two days and I told her that they were gone. Within a week it was like she never had one.

If it helps, my friend got her DS (5 I think) off the paci by telling him that the Paci Fairy came and took them to the babies that really needed them. He was OK with it even though his little sister (2.5) still uses one.

Good luck!!
