I have baby #2 on the way and would like to avoid buying another crib matress, still have to buy another crib baby #1 has a convertable crib that she will be using. I would have to switch her over to a Toddler bed at just over 2yrs old, is that too early???

This is how I got my baby to sleep through the night violet-sleepbabysleep.blogspot

That's a question that is totally individual to your child.  Only you know the answer.  I will say that toddler beds, IMO, are a total waste of money.  I think if you are buying anything new, buy a bed that can grow with her (twin or full).  Then you are just changing bedding as she matures.

Both of my kids were 2 1/2 when we moved them.

I would say when ever your child is ready I bought my dd a regular twin bed right after her 1 st b day she has slept just fine so I don't know what's early or what I just did what I felt would work :)

My son is in a toddler bed now and he's 18 months. I switched him once he could get on and off the couch alone. But he does have safety rails just in case he has a wild night

When your kid starts climbing out. Dont try to keepem in there when they start doing this. No its not too early. Thats the age my daughter was when we converted her crib to toddler bed.

Dd is 29months and I put her in a princess bed a couple weeks ago. She loves it now she tells me she wants to go night all the time lol. Dd never even tried to climb out if the crib but she was jumping and I didn't like how if sounded after awhile. I'm going to start potty trainibg soon and a toddler bed is more ideal for that when it comes to them doing it by themselves

I changed my daughter from a crib to a toddler bed when she learned how to climb out of the crib.  I will say that I agree with the post that said to purchase a twin or a full (if you can afford it) and transition your LO to THAT bed.  You can purchase rails for the bed that will slip between the mattress and the box springs.

You'll have to buy another crib mattress if either way if you leave your LO in a crib or you put them in a toddler bed as toddler beds use a standard crib mattress.

For our first we put her in a toddler bed around 2 and then a big-girl twin bed around 3 and a half bc I was pg with our second and we needed the crib set back.

But now we already chaned everything around and the 2.5 year old is now in a twin bed already.

So whenever you feel your child is ready.

Dd switched to a twin around 18months and did just fine she sleeps better in the twin them she ever did the crib. It's when ever you think your child is ready.

When my daughter was 18 months and my son was 2 1/2, I switched both their beds to toddler beds. My son could get in and out of his with ease and started climbing I to her bed and she didn't like it. So I switched both and they have stayed in their beds since.
Toddler beds can be really inexpensive, so if I were you, id get a toddler bed (if you think she's ready, and give the crib to new baby. I wont move my kids to twin beds til age 4/5 depending on size. If they outgrow their toddler beds before that, ill make the switch.
