I keep seeing salt dough recipes on Pinterest and I want to do the thumb print pendants but there are so many different recipes! Who has a fail proof one that always turns out perfect? And what do you use, just a cookie sheet to bake them on?

That's what I would think.... It's always sounded like such a fun idea.

This is pretty much the recipe I used: http://allrecipes.com/Recipe/Dough-Ornament-Recipe/Detail.aspx?prop24=RD_RelatedRecipes

Make a test batch first, I have had success with smaller cutouts vs larger ones.  You can use food coloring to color the dough,if it gets too tacky you can add extra flour.  And yes a cookie sheet is fine to bake them on.

Mine were successful. Bake at 350 but only until hard.

2 cups flour

1 cup salt

Water to correct consistency.

(to color, I find it easier to add the color to the water, then mix together.)

The key with making it work and not crack is to allow it to dry SLOWLY.  On a cookie sheet out in the open will work--but may take days.  Or in the oven at 200 degrees (no higher--this way can still take 6-8 hours or more depending on how thick.)

I used this receipe at Christmas and they all turned out perfectly.
