My oldest son will be 5 in march. Either me or my dh (mostly me) will have to start the shower( fine for temp reasons), put shampoo in his hair and wash his hair, he will shut off water and ger out but not dry himself or get dressed. He can get dressed during the day but for whatever reason he cant after shower. He also wont wash his body either.

At what age did your kids shower with no help, and by this i mean shampoo and wash and dry themselves

Sorry I don't know.  My daughter is almost 4 and we leave her in there for 10 minutes by herself playing with toys, and then we go in to wash her body and shampoo her hair.

I would like to know that answer as well. My son will be 5 in May and I still washes him and washes his hair. The hair washes has been a fight since he was a baby. He doesnt like having the water rush down on his face. He also dresses himself during the day but like your son not after a bath. I dont get it!

My 4 year old showers alone. I turn the shower on and walk out. He washes his hair and body himself. I check on frequently. When its time to get out i make sure he did it right which he usually does. I turn the shower off and dry him and he dresses himself.

Hi, I have a five year old son too and I help him in and out the shower. I set the water temp and adjust the nozzle, plus I'm usually really close by in case he needs me, I wash his hair and remind him to get the important parts. Every couple of showers I even redemonstrate how to soapy his towels and whatnot.

My son turned 6 in December and just started asking to do it himself about 6 months ago.  He probably doesn't do the greatest job but he's also not super dirty right now.  During the summer when he's lathered in sunscreen and sweat, I'll probably give him a good once over or monitor him more closely to make sure he's getting it all off.

my son is 5 and I have to start his shower/bath and wash his hair. He likes to pretend he can't get out of the bath himself but I make him anyways. lol I'm not sure what the normal age is, but he HATES water in his face so unless me or DH wash his hair it isn't going to get done. I do remember that when I was 5/6 I got myself in the bath or shower and did everything without help. though having 4 older brothers my parents probably weren't able to help me as much as I have helped my son. lol

dd is 4 and still takes a bath.  she's not interested in the shower so that's fine with me.  she's learning now how to wash herself but i help her with her bum and her back; she does the rest.  i still wash her hair for her.

when i was a kid, i took a bath until i was closer to 7 or 8.  it's not a big deal; evenually he'll learn how to shower but he's only 5.  don't sweat it.

Same here, I'm really pushing for her to do it herself because I'm pregnant and soon I won't be able to lean over the tub. We have a detachable shower head so it helps when washing her hair. The only time she takes a shower is if she gets in with me.

My son is 5 starts the shower himself, washes his body, turns off the water, gets a towel, drys himself off, gets dressed, puts on lotion and brushes his teeth. He does this every morning by him self. Mean while I'm getting ready as well. I then brush his hair and we leave. I only wash his hair on Sundays. It is past his shoulders. He had been doing this since he was 4.

My oldest was about 5 years old when she started showering herself. I started doing it in sections when she was younger tho. First I had her wash her own private parts first. When it came to washing her body, I put body wash on a body poof and told her to mimic me with washing her arms and hands. Then when she got used to what I was doing, I tried letting her do it on her own while I watched to make sure she was doing it right. I didn't get her into a shower until she was ready to wash her hair. I started by putting shampoo in her hand, then I did the mimic stuff again, then told her what parts she missed (was usually above her ears.

With my DD2, who is about to be six, I have been pretty laid back with her. She knows how to wash her own body but I usually wash her hair then leave the rest to her. I tried to get her into the shower but after awhile it started scaring her for some reason so we are taking a break. I'll need to get her to wash her own hair soon tho.
