My whole family got this terrible stomach virus that lasted for about 1-2 days. My 2 year old ended up in the hospital because he couldn't hold any fluids down. They gave him ananti-nausea medication and IV fluids. He stopped vomiting since then, but has diarrhea. This all started 4 days ago. He is acting okay, but I am concerned about him having diarrhea for the past 2 days. Any advice? Has any one's children had a stomach virus for this long?
Have you given him probiotics? they recommend probiotics to prevent diarrhea when on antibiotics so it should help for this too.
my dd had a stomach bug when she was about 16 months old. she only puked for 1 night and 1/2 a morning but the diarrhea was HORRIBLE for 2 or 3 days. her diaper rash was so bad her butt was completely blistered. we had to put her in the bath or sink to clean her gently because we couldn't wipe her at all. it was terrible. we didn't know about probiotics then but man, i wish i had.
hope he feels better soon.
yup hit here my 3 yr old was hospitalized from wednesday afternoon to friday morning oon iv fluidsshe was sick for a week! so was hubby i'm terrifyed of hospitals, but she wanted me not daddy! keep pushing fluids try pediasure so at least he's getting nutrients
The best you can do is keep up with the fluids :( :(. Pedialyte or gatorade is best for now. And light crackers if he can tolerate it.
STupid norovirus.
Thanks everyone. I thought it was getting better today, but he had diahrea 4 times and thew up once. He is acting fine, playing and happy. I'm giving him fluids non-stop. I can't wait for this to be over! Thanks for the advice.
Fluids fluids fluids, and reintroduce solid foods slooowly.
Norovirus is the WORST. :( I hope he gets better soon.
Intestines heal slowly so baby them by sticking to the BRAT diet.
Bananas
Rice
Apples
Toast
I usually view each one a category, not one specific food. For example, any rice product is ok (rice milk, rice cake, rice cereal). Bread products of almost any kind would go under toast. Etc.
It's basically bland food easy on the intestines so they can heal.
Not for that long. Try the BRAT diet for a few days to thicken his bowel movements. Bananas, Rice, Applesauce, Toast
