Preschooler puking.....update

Hello. My DS will be 4 in April. I think, up until now, he's puked a total of 3 times in his whole little life. Not much. He woke up vomiting today, and has done so a total of about 20 times, each time, just a little. It looks like there is no food, just bright yellow liquid. (I read that this was bile) We called his pedi, and she advised only sips of water till the puking slows down and stops. She said if he has not stopped in 6 hrs, then to come in. Here's the thing...he has no fever, no nausea, he just goes to the bucket, pukes a little, then goes right back to what he's doing. It doesnt seem to bother him AT ALL! He does not show any sign that he's not feeling well, other than the vomiting. Its so weird! He's also told me that he's hungry, but every time we give him even the smallest piece of bread, 10 minutes later, he's throwing it up. Two sips of water? 10 minutes later, he's puking again. He cannot keep ANYTHING down. but shows no signs that its bothering him? What the heck? I dont know what to do! He's running around, playing with toys, and just takes breaks to vomit! Ive never seen anything like it. Also, we're in Poland, so there is no Pedilite or anything like that. What can I do to make the puking stop? Anyone been through anything similar, and if so, what was the cause?

Just wanted to tell everyone thank  you for all the support and advice! I appreciate it. We ended going to the doctor who referred us to the ER because DS had not been able to hold down even a drop of liquid for 6 hours. They admitted him to the childrens ward and they gave him an IV and rehydrated him. We were there for 5 hours. He finally was able to hold down dry toast and tea. We went home and he slept like a long through the night....there has been no puking since! THANK GOD AND KNOCK ON WOOD! lol! We're still waiting on blood results to see what, if anything was going on. But he's eaten real food today and he has not puked since Monday at 4:30 pm. WOOO HOOOO! Thanks again ladies! Its nice to have all the support!

Aww, poor buddy.

It could very well be the norovirus, which usually comes with pain and nausea but not always.  There's something going on and I hope the doctor can help him out!

Just try sips of water right now.  No food or anything until he's stopped throwing up for several hours or more!!!  And if diarreah occurs, take him right on in.  The biggest thing you want to watch out for is dehydration.  If he shows any signs of dehydration, then take him to the hospital immediately.

Beyond that, give him sips of water.  Do you guys have an electrolyte drink like gatorade?  That does the same thing.  You may want to give that to him as it does have a little more taste.

And yes, that yellow stuff is bile.  Throwing up so much bile means that there's something going on with his tummy.  Hopefully its just something simple and not a larger issue!

Good luck!!!

My son did that last month (13 months) I ended up taking him to the ER because I thought it was related to him hitting his head a few hours prior. Turns out it was just a tummy bug but did require zofran to stop the vomiting.

in all reality, our pediatrician says to offer NOTHING for at least 2 hours then start with 1tsp every 15 minutes and increase that to 1tsp every 10 minutes if they tolerate 1tsp every 15 minutes (I use a medicine dropper)...My oldest, myself and my youngest don't tolerate plain water, we do well with sweetened tea or coca cola or gatorade

My kids do better with sweetened drinks when they're sick.  The sugar also gives them a tiny bit of energy when they can't keep any other foods down.  I usually give them freezer pops or popsicles.  It gets the fluid into them more slowly and is better tolerated.  You could also blend or chop some ice, for him to eat.  It makes him feel like he's getting to eat, but it just gives him a slow trickle of fluid.

My daughter is going thru the exact same thing we were up front drying clothes(we live behind senior citizen/disabled apartments) she said she had to potty so i took her down to the public bathroom at the back of the office and she went potty but as soon as we got upstairs she threw up all over the floor.......so i brought her home stripped her (because when she went potty some how she messed her pj's on the inside up her back and outside of her panties) now she's laying on the couch.

She fell lasnite and was still jumping around so i monitored her when i got ready to go to bed i put her in bed with me and during breakfast said she needed to throw up. I'm worried about mu poor baby:(

Aww poor lil guy! Sounds like a stomach flu. My oldest got bugs all the time when she was between the ages of 2-3. She would also vomit bile, but there was nothing else we could do, but ride it out and offer electro light drinks. We found that home made chicken broth seattled her stomach.

If he can't keep water down, he can become dehydrated.  I would bring him in for an evaluation. No food for 24 hours after the vomiting.  Clear liquids only.
