My 5 yr old daughter has a lot of trouble remembering to flush the toilet. She has her own bathroom upstairs and the other day she left her poop in the toilet so long I could smell it down the hall in my room. When I went into her bathroom it almost made me gag.
Any suggestions on how to get her to remember this important part of using the bathroom by herself.

My Dd is almost 6 and she still has to be questioned each time she comes out of the bathroom. Did you flush wipe and wash? Lol it is gross but my Dd is a chicken and she leaves it because she is scared. I'm sorry I'm not much help.

Try to reward her for remembering. Like if she flushes you will get her a sticker, and let her trade them in for stuff like treats or maybe small toys.

I mean at least your kid isn't pulling poop out of her diaper and presenting it to you like mine. So it's a bit better :-P

The sticker reward idea is a good one. It worked to get her to sleep past 5am, LOL! I just don't always know when she uses the bathroom cause the not flushing thing is the only part we have trouble with, so she just goes when she needs to...you know. But if she knew she was getting a sticker for being good (and not stinky) then I am sure she would have no trouble remembering to tell me, LOL!

1 mom liked this
I would put a sign on her mirror, right above the sink that says..... Did you remember to flush? That way she sees it when she washes her hands.

I think its not that she doesn't remember, but itmight actually be scary for her to do alone. We realized this is why my son didn't flush the toilet either. So, the plan was when I walked by his bathroom in the morning, he'd be sure to flush it while I'm around :).

I am pretty sure this is not the issue, she has never shown fear for the toilet...ever! Even the super loud public toilets.
