At this age, I'm not sure she's following the story line as much as she likes the pictures, but whatever....she likes to point out the flowers, etc.
So all of the books that we have for her were gifted at baby showers, and I thought she was getting bored with them. So today we went book shopping.
5 books, and 70.00 later.... OK, there has to be a less expensive way.
Are there toddler book clubs? Does anyone know of any online vendors that have good prices? Where do you buy your toddler's books?
Quoting Fields456:
I get most of our books ( both the kids and mine ) from half priced books. If you don't have one near you you can also order online. I get tons of books for really cheap
i've looked at 1/2 price books and i feel like they aren't much cheaper than a good bargain rack at barnes and nobel or target. now that my son is in K we are getting a ton thru the scholastic program. my last order was at least 5 books and i didn't spend more than $40. we also get lots of $3.99 beginner reader books from target.
also, the most important tool I have is my library card. i check out at least 10 books at a time for free and then try 10 more the next time. if i find one i really like, i may buy it but, in general, we just borrow, enjoy and return.
I buy some for my son there.
i buy my 3 yo's "beginning reader", "step into reading", "i can read", etc. paperback books for about $4/each on Amazon.
she loves these ones:
i also buy books for the local second-hand store when i buy my daughter's clothes. they are $0.50/each. can't beat that. yard/garage sales are great, too. if you really must have brand new, just remember that the soft cover version is going to be cheaper than the hard cover.
I take my son to the library twice a week. He picks out a bunch of books and also has time to socialize and play with other kids too.
As far as books to own though, we wait until spring/summer time and go to garage sales. I always find kids books for between 10 and 50 cents each and always in great condition.
I just looked for deals in bookstores and online, and then when my older kids were in 4K they started getting the order forms for books at school which were fairly inexpensive.
Oh, and the library. If you are worried about the books being dirty or germy you can clean them at home before you read. I used to be a children's librarian, we cleaned the board books with lysol wipes.
