Ever Since my son started school this year he has had problems with his bowel movements...he says at school they give him like 2 mins to use the bathroom or less and he said when he has to go do #2 he needs a lil more time but they don't let him....so he started using the bathroom on himself .....and now its so bad that he wears big boy diapers...I have talked to his Dr. About it and they are having him see a Gi Dr. I just don't know why this is happening...has anything like this happened to any of ur kids....???????

have you talked to the school about letting him use the bathroom for longer?

I haven't seen it happen before. If I were you, I'd go ahead and have him see the specialist just in case there is something going on. If everything comes back okay, I would see about talking to the school.

I've never heard of a school limiting bathroom usage.  Talk to the school about your concerns.

The school really shouldn't be timing kids unless it's a persistant problem. If the kid goes 15 times a day, and there's no medical problem, they really should limit said child, but the kid that needs to go once or twice a day and needs 5 or so minutes to finish, so be it.

That's what I said when my son told me....and I haven't talked to school yet because at the time I was just thinking he's a kid and sometimes they exaggerate...but I'm hope going to this Dr. Will help him....

My BF's DD has bowel problems also We have had to go to the school and specifically tell the teachers If she has to go, you have to let her go and no time limits. She has a medical issue with her bowels and if you cause her to have to go in to the hospital cause you won't give her the time she needs in the bathroom then your going to have a problem. We haven't had any problems since then. Good luck this is pretty miserable on the kids....

Our school does have a time limit because of so many kids going and playing in the bathrooms.

My oldest use to have issues and it was mainly because after lunch they went outside for recess and he said that at that time he would have to go poop and they wouldnt let him go since their wasnt enough staff to let him go.. Well at 7he was pooping his pants and i finally after the 2nd time talked to the school and they have now changed it that if he has to poop they will let him and now he had gotten to where he didnt like to poop at school and would try to hold it til he got home and it was causing him pain so now he can go to the potty when he needs to

I think sometimes schools forget this happens and since they have so many kids that they give a time limit so kids arent using that time to play around, I would definitley talk to either his teacher or someone in the office especially since he needs just a little extra time for his BM.

Kids (especially elementary school aged kids) have a tendency to play in the bathroom, instead of just hurrying up, going #1, and coming right back out. So, in general, kids should be quick about it. But if he needs to go #2, he should just be able to let the teacher know and extra time should be no problem. Teachers don't mind legitimate bathroom use--they do mind kids just playing around.
