I need help with my 5 yr old son. He is constantly hitting and I'm losing my temper. I'm currently using a 5 minute time out for this as he is 5. He does this anywhere between 1 and 5 times per hour. He hits his younger sisters or any of the animals just for being in his vicinity.
Eg. Walking out of the bathroom he encounters one of the girls and he can't control the impuls to reach out and hit her in the face, back or any other part of her. One girl is 3, the other is 23mo... Makes no difference to him. The dog walks by, gets a smack on the head. He sees the cat and he shoves her or hits her out of his way.
I won't spank for this cause I feel it isn't going to change the impulse or give him a heart of compassion. But I'm exhausted. I've thought maybe tying his hands together during time out (cause he plays in time out and ends up with 2 or 3 of them for playing in time out). I haven't yet, I'm worried it would be "abuse"
I love my son, but this behavior has to go, suggestions?
