Very much annoyed with my daughter's school

This is the email they sent all the parents. The thing that bothers me is that this VIRUS has bee going around for the last FEW weeks and something about it is just now being done about it. And that if they are publicly owned, they would have been shut down already. Not happy at all.

Dear Parents,

As you should all be aware, we have been experiencing an abnormally
high rate of students contracting a virus that has been going around
the school for the past few weeks.  We have made every attempt to
curtail the spread of this virus but unfortunately we continue to have
students coming down ill.  As a result of the virus, we initiated
extensive conversations with Health Department of the State of New
Jersey.  Based on their input we have made the difficult decision to
close the school on the following date:

Tuesday, May 28th, 2013

We realize that this decision may create a significant inconvenience
for many of our parents.  Along those lines, we want all of our
parents to understand that this is not a decision that we came to
lightly.  Little Genius is a privately owned and operated facility.
If we were a publicly run facility the Health Department would have
already mandated a closure of the center. As much of an inconvenience
as this may be, the health of our students and staff must be our first
priority.

Based on the extensive research and interactions we have had with the
Health Department we have reached a point where we need the building
cleared of any and all things that may still be carrying these germs.
We will be spending the long weekend as well as Tuesday and Wednesday
to collect and remove ALL items from ALL classrooms.  We will be
removing everything from the classrooms to sanitize with the
expectation that we will be able to stop the spread of this virus once
and for all.

Children have been showing the symptoms of diarrhea, vomiting , high
and low grade fevers, and some have come down with this virus on
multiple occasions. The Health Department has determined that the
incubation period of this virus is 48 hours. This means your child may
not be showing the symptoms now, but may still have come in contact
with the virus.  The additional day closed will provide us with the
needed time to account for the incubation period of this virus. Any
child who was sent home at any time during this last week MUST present
a doctors note before being allowed back into school.

To reiterate, this is not a decision that we make lightly.  We do
however feel that based on the information the Health Department has
provided us with this is the best course of action to ensure the
health and safety of all our students and faculty.  We sincerely
apologize for any inconvenience this may cause.  As for your questions
and concerns please feel free to contact us directly.  The Health
Department has also made themselves available for your comments and
concerns so please feel free to contact them

After reading this, how do you feel? How would you feel if this was your child's school?

I would appreciate that they are taking the time to do this. I don't know of many that would.

Same. I don't think it's unfair that they waited a few weeks to shut down, it shows they weren't reacting hastily but aren't dragging their feet. I don't know, I don't see a problem with it but my kids don't go there so I don't know the whole story.

I would be happy that they are taking this necessary step to stop the virus from spreading.

1 mom liked this

And why exactly are you not happy with this?  Because they are shutting down on a regular workday?  Or because you think they should have shut down weeks ago??
